this is getting ridiculous.

if the'yre just gonna sign whoever - they should just say screw it and bring back fan faves

what else is the point?

they could do a ' throwback' theme night and trot out IT / PP / antoine / perk / tony allen and maybe dana barros! :)

I would pay good money to see Pierce and Antoine back together.  Bring back Joe Johnson, too.

I mean why not go for the gold standard in bringing back Antoine!

I'd pay some money to see Larry camp out by the 3 point line and launch up some set shots too.

The new rule is you get one replacement player for every guy out with Covid.

A Russ / KG front line?  Make it happen.  Or hell, do a raffle to allow a fan to suit up.

Which enterprising team will use this as the opportunity to sign the first female player?

I like the female idea actually.  Why not?
Yup

I'm on board.  Since teams can sign multiple replacement players, the salary isn't really meaningful, and they don't count against the cap, I say experiment away.  I'd take Breanna Stewart on the Celtics.

I was hoping the Cs were going to take some fliers on high upside players or high picks that didn't work out but still have have a chance to fulfil their potential. Effectively give them what equates to an extended tryout.

And then there were four...again.

We've been asking for years who would be the last of the 41 high school era (1975-2006) draft picks in the NBA to still be playing.

C.J. Miles, signing with the Celtics today, rejoins the list with Lou Williams, LeBron James and Dwight Howard.

While I would take some joy seeing more guys like IT get a chance to have a curtain call on an NBA floor (Joe Johnson, Jamal Crawford, Korver, JR Smith, Josh , Greg Monroe etc could be funny, interesting. However, overall I think the NBA is kind of making a joke of itself right now by refusing to pause. While Injuries are a part of every sport every year, having 7 players missing games for a flue for ten days is not. If this continues on like this the standings are going to become fairly meaningless and team are basically going to make or not make the playoffs based on how bad they get covid and who gets it.

Not really.  It’s the covid that’s doing this not the NBA, and you know why there is not going to be a pause ($$).  Beyond that, I really doubt any of this is going to change who makes the playoffs and certainly not who wins it all.

People keep saying this part about the money and I don't really understand it. If they postpone the games for two weeks and play them when rosters are not filled with ten day contract guys how exactly do they lose money? On Saturday the Nets visited the Magic and played Kessler Edwards, David Duke Jr, Cam Thomas, Blake Griffin and three players on emergency ten day contracts (harrison, galloways, Ennis). How many people actually showed up see this game compared to the chance to see Harden, Durant, Irving and Aldridge? How many people didn't buy jerseys, parking, food, booze because they didn't show up. How many walk up ticket sales were there? I can not think of a way in my head they didn't lose money on this compared to having it two weeks from now.

What do you suspect would change after two weeks?  Are experts predicting that this is a short blip?

I have read a lot of predictions that the next few weeks are supposed to be the worst because of holiday travel. We will also have much more information about omnicron then and more people are getting the booster every day (which has proven to be a huge difference maker against the new variant) Obviously there is definitely a chance it gets worse, as we have had non stop twists and turns with this for the last year and a half. I can understand wanting to do the christmas games and those ad slots have been sold for a lot of money. But a saturday game between the magic and Nets with 12 players on ten day contracts, I have not heard any evidence the league makes money by not rescheduling it (which a lot of people have just presented as a fact). I think they actually lose money doing these games outside of things like Christmas for the reasons I outlined above.

70 players have entered protocols this month, and 50 in the last week. If they paused now, probably another 50 would enter this week, because a ton of players have been exposed and just haven’t tested positive yet.  As they aren’t pausing, I’d expect even more.  It feels like they’re just trying to ride it out — maybe herd immunity might be an actual strategy for them.
