There are tons of outbreaks happening in pro sports right now. I figured this was only a matter of time to be honest. Still stinks.

Had to see this coming after Giannis went into protocol.

Sucks.

If I remember correctly, Grant and Al were the main defenders on Giannis.  Also, did a nice job holding him to reasonable numbers.  I guess they were both in his face most of the game.

There’s a lot of outbreaks going on in all sports. Omicron appears to be a lot more transmissible than delta. It’s the reality of the world we live in today, nobody is immune  :-\

I had to get tested today because a contact tested positive…our bench players are going to get some time over the next few months.  Shame we didn’t play better when we had a softer schedule but thems the breaks.
Any odd typos are because I suck at typing on an iPhone :D

They’ve sequenced omnicron, it’s actually far less transmissible. Delta is the super transmissible variant.

So frustrating. We need to just accept this as a new norm and move on. This is out of control.

If all players vaccinated, while risk of transmission apparently remains high, risk of serious illness is pretty low. If that is the case, we need to reassess our reaction to these outbreaks.  Frankly I wish the NBA would ban all players who remain unvaccinated, and let those who are keep playing even if they test positive unless they display symptoms. I think this is the direction the country will be headed.

So hard to just move on when so many states that have large amounts of the population unvaccinated are having their hospitals overrun with patients needing IC beds and have so many people dying.

If everyone was vaccinated and boosted, the country, and particularly sports, as a whole could relax protocols. So you came close to someone who had COVID or got it yourself. Big deal. It will most likely be asymptomatic or like a small flu.

But so many aren't vaxed, that is the issue. I wonder how many players got vaxed because they had to, but their family and loved ones at home didn't. That might be a huge issue and reason so many players are going into protocols.

But so many aren't crazed that is the issue. I wonder how many players got maxed because they had to but their family and loved ones at home didn't. That might be a huge issue and reason so many players are going into protocols.

Reportedly 95% of NBA players are vaccinated.   This is no longer an issue about vaccination.  We are dealing with a virus that doesn't give a hoot if you are vaccinated. It will still get you, multiple times. The good news is that if you are vaccinated, and don't have pre-existing health issues, your symptoms are likely to be pretty mild. Which is why I am advocating that the league mandate that only vaccinated players should play, and let them continue to play even if they get infected, so long as they are asymptomatic.  That way we don't have to do a freak out every time there is a positive test.

You pretty much are echoing my thoughts. If not only all players were vaxed but also everyone else in the country, the country as a whole would be in a position where the disease, for the most part, would be like a flu or even less severe.

You have a source for this by chance? Everything I've read about this variant so far is implying it's 2-5x more transmissible than Delta, but less severe.  So an uptick in cases is expected.

Also, not sure if it's just a typo, but it's omicron (Oh Mi Cron).  I've seen a lot of people mistype it, and heard a lot of people mispronounce it.
