Let’s discuss the pros and cons of this distinct possibility.

Better idea—let’s not.  Doc already bailed on this franchise.  Ime has had barely a hot minute in the driver’s seat and some of you guys are already calling for his head.  Give the guy some time.

No.   The Celtics should not be changing coaches already.

Doc is a terrible coach.  He also is about as 2-faced as they come, lies constantly about everything, and is generally just not a likeable figure (despite being well liked).
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

Pros:  He won a ring as head coach here.

Cons:  Pierce, Garnett and Allen aren't walking through that door.

Hard pass on a Doc reboot.
Yup

intriguing but I’d pass on Doc. The upside I see is he might get star players like Tatum playing a better way (like he did with Pierce) but I think Doc’s magic has run out.

Heck, I might be in the minority, but IMHO i think Brad Stevens (BS) took the Cs to a higher level than Doc had (not considering the stacked 2008 team); but considering the teams BS coached to the ECFs (and more than twice - mind you) - do you really believe those teams belonged on a ECF? really?.....as opposed to the teams Doc had in LA and now in Philly.

and so from where I am standing, Ime and Doc would have some big shoes to fill.

As for Doc coming back to Boston, if we are firing Ime to hire Doc; I don't see a good reason making a move like that.  Doc is good, but might be a tad overrated in my opinion.

I d rather have CBS ,  but all I m say n is I think the FO likes Doc better than many on Celtics Strong.  He is a good coach and guy , but he isn’t the be all end all coach either.  I think the owners might think, want,  ask , prod CBS into bringing Doc  back to Boston if he is cooked ( which I think he is ) in Philly…..he run off their prize player …LOL.   I don’t see any benefits from bringing Doc back now ,  I think he proved he is no genius, pass decade as he had tons of greatest allstar players and yet got no ring from it all.   But …..never know how the owners feel in Boston,  they might order Brad to hire him.   I doubt it would help IMO.  Ime is treading water ok for now and deserves a fair chance.  The issue in Boston , is still talent and mix of players , which is more in Stevens corner to resolve.  …fix DA s mess.

I am so happy with Ime as our coach.  I don't want Doc back (he quit on us), and Ime is doing a much better job than Brad in calling out the players on their BS me first crap.

I'm team Ime all the way!!!

What he said. He treated Boston with disdain. Why would anyone even bring him back?

I think Ime needs to be given a full 2 seasons to see what happens.  I am pretty neutral on Ime right now, as it is too soon to tell.

Brad seemed to have a much bigger immediate impact to our team, a bigger impact on getting the most out of our rag tag rosters we had early on with him.  As much as Brad struggled the last year or so, I would probably still prefer him as coach over Ime.

Also, I think the Doc hate here is a little bit exaggerated.  He was a part of the reason we won the championship with big 3.  Not saying he was the main reason, but he was part of it.  There are probably coaches that we could have had that wouldn't have gotten us to the goal.  But would he be the best match for the J's?  Not sure, but doubtful.  He does deserve some credit for helping PP mature and get better.  We are kind of at a similar point with the J's.

I would probably prefer a non-burnt-out Brad to Ime if the team decided to move on from Ime.  But Brad going back to coaching seems unlikely at this point though.

I think the nba has probably passed doc by. He has underachieved in Philly.

This.  And they alternate games as head coach.

Let’s discuss the pros and cons of this distinct possibility.

Not the remotest possibility, I’d say.
'I was proud of Marcus Smart. He did a great job of keeping us together. He might not get credit for this game, but the pace that he played at, and his playcalling, some of the plays that he called were great. We obviously have to rely on him, so I’m definitely looking forward to Marcus leading this team in that role.' - Jaylen Brown, January 2021
