  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I’ve been pushing a Siakam deal for a while, so obviously I would be for this trade. If we’re being honest, Siakam is a bit overpaid and Dragic is already being discussed as buy-out candidate, so this isn’t as outrageous as it seems.

Also like Nick’s idea of buying low in Isaac or Grant.

no way I'm trading Timelord for Siakum.
I'd happily include Timelord in a trade for Siakam.

Timelord cannot put the ball on the floor to save his life. This means he cannot create his own shot. He depends on his teammates to create shots for him. He cannot shoot the 3 either. He's a rim runner, hence a role player. Siakam is an All-Star-caliber player. He can put the ball on the floor and create his own shot (albeit he ain't crafty enough to be the go-to scorer in the half court). He can create shots for his teammates off the dribble. He's an elite option in the open court. He can stretch the floor all the way to the 3pt line. We already know for a fact he was thriving in a supporting role behind Kawhi. I bet he'd be thriving playing 3rd fiddle behind the Jays. Both Timelord and Siakam are terrific defenders. Timelord is hands down a better rim protector. Siakam is a better perimeter defender. The C's run a switch-heavy defensive system. With this in mind, Siakam would be a better fit in our defensive system.

I love it, but I'm terrible at projecting team balance.  The C's current roster looks good to me - but apparently isn't.  I really expected with Schroeder and Al and JRich and healthy Rob and improved Grant, and developing Romeo and Aaron, and 2nd year Payton... they seemed like a team that should be winning >60% of games and competitive every night. Not this inconsistent, blow leads, comeback from 20 team that looks more like last year's lackluster team than I would have ever guessed it would.

So shake it up and add a 20-7-4 guy - 2nd tier star.  And I don't know if Dragic is done but I was always annoyed by him -- which means I'd like him on my team.  Hate to lose Al though.  Siakem played well when he was not top banana.  Might be great for him

Didn't think that Siakam might be available.

If he is, at a minimum Williams would have to be included.

I like the player and would be in favor of a deal like this.

I’m for dealing guys but Siakam as our third best player I still don’t think is enough. But I’m not going to say I have any better ideas.

Siakim is a great fit on this team bit I just done see the cs having the assets to make a big deal.  DS is their best asset to deal to a playoff team getting a 1st round pick but the young guys are not playing enough to show the league they will be more then bench players.  The cs picks aren't anything better then mid to late mid picks.  I just don't see any deals outside of getting an asset for schroeder.

I think someone...a big... that can stretch the floor and defend multiple positions would be a great addition to the team, especially given the fact that Horford most likely isn't a long term piece and is probably gone after this season.

So if the Celtics can land someone like:

Harrison Barnes
Jerami Grant
Pascal Siakam
Christian Wood
Domantas Sabonis
Rui Hachimura
Jonathan Isaac
Kyle Anderson
Robert Covington

players of that ilk, I think that would definitely balance out the team.

It would balance out the defense & rebounding. Not the offense. This team needs more ball-handling, quickness and perimeter shooting.

I'd happily include Timelord in a trade for Siakam.

One guy is a mental midget playing the same position as our two best players, and he makes $33M a year. Guy wilts like a dry flower in the playoffs.

The other has a very unique skill set; impacts the game very positively in a variety of ways when he’s on the floor —- and sees his team dip in productivity when he’s off it — for about $10M a year, locked in for years.

Decisions decisions

I voted that both teams say no though it’s a fair deal.

Toronto says no because they’re rebuilding. Siakam is projected to have a higher upside than anyone in the deal. Ujiri is a shrewd GM, Siakam’s a former All-NBA player and selling now would be selling low. He’d bet that if he were

Boston says no because veterans and defense win in the playoffs. Brown and Smart exposing Siakam in 2020 is still fresh in my mind.   This is not Danny flipping assets for better assets; it’s Stevens team building. Stevens is going to give this team this season before he makes a big decision like this.

This team might have a leadership issue and is in need of player(s) that can direct the offense and protect the rock. For that, I prefer Siakam’s teammate, VanVleet. TimeLord+filler for VanVleet is my deal.

In this thread, this players name has been spelled Siakam, Siakum, Siakim, and Siakem. We just need an O to hit all the vowels.

I would love to trade for Pascal Siakom.

Saikym, would probably go on draft night for top 5 pick if he was going to be dealt. They should keep Barnes and him together for a bit just to make it interesting dynamic to play against them.

I hate what this trades does to the Celtics passing but it is too hard to say no.

I'm just gonna leave this here.

Quote from: the Athletic
Pascal Siakam not untouchable?

Is Pascal available for trade, or is he untouchable? Other than Scottie Barnes, who are the untouchables? — Frank S. Eric Koreen: Siakam’s not untouchable. Barnes is untouchable, and Anunoby is probably close. But let’s go beyond that. Siakam still seems to be one of the more confusing parts of this season. I think it’s genuinely difficult to separate his performance from the team’s struggles (and his in the past), given how this team is constructed and how unhealthy the Raptors currently are. His true shooting percentage is higher than it has been since his breakout third season when he won NBA Most Improved Player. It’s still a lot closer to the two years that came after — which included one season in which he was named All-NBA Second Team — than that one, but it is progress. His 3-point percentage is up to 36, but he continues to take fewer per minute, down from 6.2 per 36 in 2019-20 to 3.8 this year. Given his struggles last season, that is understandable. His usage percentage is slightly down from last season, as are his assists. His turnovers are slightly up, which is a worry but a minor one. The Raptors aren’t exactly swimming in spacing.

In short: Siakam is good. Where does that leave his value? Well, he’s worth his deal in the sense that if the Raptors didn’t give it to him, someone else would have. His salary is outpacing his production at the moment, but not by such a degree that you would call the contract a franchise albatross. The league is in an interesting place. There is a wider cast of contenders to win a title than usual, which should make those teams more aggressive at the deadline. As mentioned above, we’ve already seen Siakam as an integral part of a championship team. I’m not predicting a trade, because those are hard to make — especially when a player is making $33 million this season. Still, I’d be surprised if there doesn’t wind up being a few interesting offers for Siakam before the trade deadline, and particularly in the offseason.

I'd love that deal. The question is how many picks the C's would have to throw in to make it work and is anyone else going to outbid for Siakam?
