it’s clear this team isn’t going anywhere meaningful with JT, JB, and marcus as the team’s core. at this point in their tenure, i have zero issue with hard fought losses to elite teams, but we’re still losing (and getting blown out) to lottery teams due to lazy defense, selfish offense, low IQ ball, and overall lack of effort or give-a-sh*t.

continuing to add role players and massage the roster while we wait for the j’s to mature isn’t working. it’s year five of the core playing together and can anyone honestly say this team is trending in the right direction? based on unbiased visual evidence, are they improving in any significant capacity? it’s clear they’re regressing at an alarming rate and it’s occurred across multiple seasons, coaches, gm’s, rosters/teammates, etc.

in spite of the myriad of changes, something is intrinsically wrong with the core of this team. it’s becoming more apparent there’s a cancer on this team that’s worsening and talent is no longer enough to overcome it. time for a major shakeup while the assets have high perceived value.

consequently, brad needs to be aggressive and creative before the trade deadline, and breakup the core. first of all, package marcus and get as much value as possible from teams desperate for a lockdown defender, while freeing up valuable cap space. quietly dangle JB and/or JT before the deadline and try to get a king’s ransom, which must include a truly elite player, and an appropriate supporting player(s) that fills a current gap (e.g. pure shooting two-guard), or draft picks. don’t pull the trigger unless it’s a no-brainer trade package that values one or both J’s at their “perceived” potential. only keep one of the core players if brad and ime are certain this player isn’t the cancer and will thrive within the newly constructed team.

i know, celtic’s fans…ThEy’Re OnLy 23 & 25, and YoU’rE cRaZy tO tRaDe a “tOp-15” player!!! is he though? what has he consistently proven vs. what’s our emotional valuation of his future potential? he’s an inconsistently elite shooter who can put up big numbers when his iso, step-back three-ball is falling. when it’s not (which is far too often for an emerging elite player) he can be a liability. he’s mentally soft, not a leader, doesn’t seem to possess the win-at-all-costs killer instinct, he sulks and argues calls too often, his decision making at critical times forces questions about his bball IQ, and he plays with low effort far too often. even in games when he’s scoring like an elite player, he disappears in large spurts. he possesses elite defensive ability but recently hasn’t put forth much effort on this side of the court. finally, he doesn’t make the players around him better.

are the C’s currently better when JT is on the floor? no doubt. but are the C’s championship contenders with JT as the team’s elite player? i say no; JT’s not that guy and never will be.

i understand this is a controversial opinion, but imo brad needs to sell high before the league figures it out and trade value drops precipitously. if brad decides to hold long term and misses the window, it’s going to be a long decade, C’s fans.

the trade deadline is typically post all-star game. if we’re still playing then as we are currently, how would you advise trader bradly? status quo? trade marcus? trade JT, JB, or both? shake up the remaining roster again?

Been saying it for almost two years now: JT and JB are not going to get us to the promised land. We need a Big 3. This is not Jordan/Pippen by any means…

I am beginning to wonder whether JB will just continue to grow and eventually be better than JT. I definitely think we can probably get a  king’s ransom for JT right now, but I worry he’s peaked and his value will only decline from here…

I am very interested in whether Portland would deal us Lillard and McCollum for Tatum, Horford, Fernando (to make the cap work) and picks (so basically Tatum for Lillard and a bunch of picks for McCollum, with the remainder to make the dollars work). Personally think a Lillard/McCollum/Brown Big 3 could be precisely what Lillard/McCollum and JB both need. We’d still retain Smart, Timelord, Pritchard, Langford and Nesmith, so still have quite a bit of youth with our new wily vets in their prime (and high character guys locked up 3-4 years with a strong desire to win a championship and make their mark in basketball history). Unlike JT, whom I worry about jumping ship to don Kobe’s and LeBron’s purple-and-gold, I think Lillard/McCollum know precisely what needs to be done to win and they would lick their chops at the prospect of staying together and playing with an elite talent like JB. It gives all four players a fresh start in a new environment, too…

We look like a borderline lottery team with JT’s leadership alongside JB. Does anybody really think a Big 3 of Lillard/McCollum/Brown with a solid supporting cast is not good enough to compete for a title the next 3+ years? Personally think we’d immediately move into the top 3 in the East…

And maybe we really get a fresh start and do the above along with moving Smart for Markannen, especially if Smart and JB have any friction. Definitely love the look of this, and next off-season we bring in some ring-chasing vets for front-court depth:

Lillard/Schröder/Pritchard
McCollum/Richardson/Langford
Brown/Nesmith
Markannen/Parker
Timelord/Kanter

Cs are not trading Horford unless he asks out.

I've been quite busy professionally, so all I've managed to catch so far from this season are highlights and recaps. Do you mind sharing some of the unbiased visual evidence with me?

On paper, I'm not inclined to agree with the statement, but as I haven't watched full games I can't say I have a strong, settled opinion.

It's funny I think Jaylen has been an utter disappointment other than game 1. He looks not engaged, lazy, and checked out. I do agree it's time to move on from Marcus. He's been brutal!

The sky is falling!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

thanks for the thoughtful feedback! shall we count you in the status quo crowd? :)

this team is 39-43 over its last 82 games and limped out of the gate this season for the coach for whom they were allegedly excited to play for and approved. it’s less about the 2-3 start and more about their continued lack of effort and laissez-faire approach to winning that has fans concerned.

furthermore, have we ever really witnessed the J’s play together at a high level for even short runs? what about the core 3 (including marcus)? face it, these three don’t work well together on the court and it’s time for a major shakeup or we’ll continue to get more of the same. audentes fortuna iuvat!

Do the C's have a player on the team that makes other players on the team better?

again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

how long has PBS been PBS? my gosh, can we as fans wait at least PART of a season before pronouncing the death sentence upon the franchise?

let's wait and see at least until game 20, okay?
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

This team had no heart.  It's not fun to watch and they don't play well together   0-20 and Nesmith sees zero time.  This coaching staff looks like they are in over their head.  The pieces don't fit.  They get out muscled and just Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline.e and complain to the refs and give up easy baskets.  I Definitely feel the Cs get hosed on calls.  IME needs to show some fire and back his team vs calling them out in the media.  Its a Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline. show and I expected some lumps because they need to gel but wow does this team look like they would much rather be playing Xbox vs playing basketball.

lol, some of you guys are hilariously defensive. no one has said anything remotely approaching the death of the franchise, or the sky is falling. we’re all C’s fans with differing opinions.

okay, to save the status quo folks the unbearable stress, i’ll check back in on this thread after game twenty. i look forward to the new and creative excuses.

approaching the midpoint of the season and wondering if the sarcastic “the sky is falling” crowd is still content with the direction of this franchise.

i stand by my original post in this thread and think the window of opportunity is closing. it’s time for radical changes or wyc and brad will ride this dysfunctional team down to terminal value. once that happens, we’ll be in for a long decade of rebuilding.

if brad cannot get a king’s ransom for tatum, call him into the office and commit to rebuilding around him. everyone else must be expendable and ime must be gone at the end of the season.
