Celtics roster still Tiny

 We have no size. The story remains the same.  How are we supposed to win a chip if we don't acquire players over 6'8" that can actually effect the game in the paint.

 Horford will help but he's 35 years old. I would give up a Lot for Ayton if the Suns won't pay him. I'm so tired of this small ball crap.  Grant Williams as our 6'5" second big? Just awful. 

 Take a look at the guys that played last night.

Brown 6'6" 46 minutes
Smart 6'2" 46 minutes
Tatum 6'8" 45 minutes
Timelord 6'8" 45 minutes
Denis 6'1" 32 minutes
Grant 6'5" 31 minutes
Nesmith 6'5" 11 minutes
Romeo 6'4" 23 minutes
Prichard  6'1" 11 minutes

 We aren't winning anything with an NBA team with this vertically challenged team.. and Horford and J Rich aren't the solution. Big ball wins rings. Big talented players.

One thing that stood out to me about the team's size last night was that without Horford we had no other skilled big man to go bigger to matchup against the Knicks big frontline.

Horford is the only big man on the team who can regularly make a jump-shots. The lack of skilled size is a big limitation of this team.

Not sure size was a big concern against the Knicks for whatever reasons.  Of the DNP-CD players, there was a lot of size:

JHern         6'-9"
Parker        6'-8"
Fernando    6'-9"
Kanter        6'-10"

Incidentally, Here is how our "big" usage broke down:

GWill + RWill     18 min    +10
GWill (1 Big)      13 min    -18
RWill (1 Big)      27 min     +4

So net, we were +10 with 2 bigs and -14 with 1 big.  Much better with RWill as the 1 big than GWill as the 1 big.  The Knicks played with 2 of Randle, Robinson, and Toppin on the court nearly all the time.

Got to have size inside to win..look at Milwaukee last season..I know Golden State won some with smaller guys but had Durant & Curry helps..Celtics, Lakers & Pistons won with a big team in 80s & early 90s, Houston with Hakeem, Spurs with Robinson & Duncan, Shaq with Lakers, etc

To get more size on the court, there may have to be an adjustment to the defensive system when that other piece is out there.   Can't be switching with Kanter.

Agreed, If we could somehow free up the space I would throw the farm at Deandre Ayton. I am not sure that he is going to be worth his next contract but his size and skill level put him around the 99th percentile for centers. Not too mention with scorers like Tatum and Brown we would not need him to score 20+ per night. 16 and 10 on high efficiency, mid range spacing and lock down post defense is worth every bit of the max with this roster.

Timelord + Picks for DeAndre Ayton is my favorite pipe dream but I honestly think it could be a win for both teams. From Phoenix's perspective they are capped out and RWIII is a bargain that would be a great fit with Chris Paul.

Juancho can hit open shots, but he's not really a true big and definitely wouldn't have helped offset the size advantage Randle had over Grant

Robert Williams just put up 16/10 on near-perfect. Added 5 blocks, 3 steals and 3 assists too. If he can stay healthy and play ~30MPG a night I'd rather him on his contract than Ayton on a max deal

Yup , I’m totally baffled by the same logic . 

I’m sick every time Heat find a new 7 center , and we get a new 6 foot guard ,  or Lakers get the best big man year and year out , we can only get worn out oldies.  I still mad about Brown being traded for that worthless Josh Richardson .

A thing about height. Until players contest shots and rebound the ball with their heads, I want to know their standing reach when I'm deciding whether they're "tiny". Rob Williams has really, really long arms, which give him a reported standing reach of 9'4". I can't say for sure that's right, but it's ballpark and P3 rated Rob as having elite reach *for a center*. For comparison, Ayton's reach is listed at 9'3". So you can list Rob at 6'8" but his reach is about the same as Ayton's, maybe higher, and we know darn well who can jump higher.

As for whether the team is short - a lot depends on who's injured, the same as every other team. But Ime's preferred lineup seems to be: Smart - Jaylen - Jason - Horford - R Williams. I don't see one guy who's below average size for his position, and I'd say playing the Js at the 2 and the 3 is going to give us a size advantage most nights.

If you want to say we don't have a monster center like an Embiid, that's absolutely right. And I'd happily take him. But I would much rather see us find a skilled 4 who can defend, rebound, and step into Al's spot as he ages than just look for pure size. I fully support not playing Kanter last night.

It doesn't help your cause to lie about certain player heights

Plus wingspan is just as important as height. Timelord, Smart, and many of our other players have huge wingspans, which let's them punch above their weight class, so to speak.
