I for one do not miss Kemba or Fournier.

Same! And so far at least Horford is a big talent upgrade at a position of greater need.

Yes.  Swapping out Kemba for Al should be worth the first if his health holds.  Things just work better with him on floor.

Kemba seems to be struggling, and his minutes have been declining in NY.  Losing  the 16th pick stinks, but that was the cost to get off his deal, which would have been a huge drag on our team this season.

Only 3 games but Kemba is averaging just 10 ppg and more than half of his shots are 3's. He's shooting great from 3 but if he can't get to the rim anymore his main value as a player is gone and teams are going to start guarding that 3-shot tighter.

Yeah, I think we upgraded both at center and at PG this off-season.  Schroder should be better than Kemba, and Horford is better than Tristan Thompson or whoever our backup center was.

It's one of the reasons I'm disappointed that we let Fournier walk.  We had a chance to go into this season with a team that stayed even or got better at every position.  Instead, we improved point guard and center but downgraded at SG.

- We dumped Theis for practically nothing at last season's trade deadline. He was our starting Center at the time.
- We were unwilling to match NY's offer for Fournier during the offseason.

Let's face it, Wyc is cheap.

But 3 of our 4 top younger prospects fit into that slot. It is really important that Langford and Nesmith develop as players, and because we brought in Shroder and we start Smart, there now aren't many minutes at the PG slot for Pritchard. He makes a lot of sense to play when Smart is out there, because it works out defensively and he provides elite shooting.

I understand why we grabbed Richardson, but I wish we didn't bother with him either. We drafted two #14 guys and we need at least one of them to be a useful player. Fournier would have snuffed out that development.

Of these, dumping Theis hurts the most. He’d look great as our backup PF/C.

Fournier had the best scoring game of his career against us; he’s come down to earth since and he’s not much as a defender. I’d rather develop the guys we have.

And they’re going to tear him apart on the other end.

I don't get this line of thinking.  So if you assume it was Kemba ($73.6M left on contract) + Pick 16 for nothing or I guess for a 2nd Round Pick, that means the rest of the deal was this:

Horford, Moses Brown (traded for Richardson, straight up, with TPE that was expiring)

for

2nd Round Pick

So we got Al Horford and Josh Richardson for a distant 2nd round pick.  That is a pretty good deal.  Those are going to be two really useful players for us.  All for a nearly worthless second round pick.  Nice.

I see the alternate to Horford ($26M) and Richardson ($12M) as Kemba ($37M), Fournier ($17M), and Sengun ($3M).  $38M vs. $57M this season alone, Kemba can't play and a rookie isn't playing much.  So spend $19M more to have Fournier likely off the bench.  No thanks

There was also some discussion about Josh Richardson's player option.  The option was for this season (2021-22) so yes, he would have had to pick it up before any trade.  We then extended him.  It may well have all been pre-discussed, I will pick up my option and let the trade happen but only if you give me another year.  It actually makes sense as to why it was done so quickly and quietly.

I feel bad for Theis. He should be a bench 5 for a good team, not stuck in Houston

He signed a 3-year, $26 million deal to be stuck in Houston, with a team option in year 4.  Tough to feel too bad for him.

Yes, stick it out in a warm weather city and at 32 have... $10-15 million in the bank.  It's a sacrifice.

It's not that I love this -- I hope they both do well, but I was on board with both of them not being here.  I didn't think Fournier did very much for the C's while he was here.  All things considered (D and O) including contract I prefer Richardson at least so far.
