Marc Stein: The Celtics are planning to sign Matt Ryan to a two-way contract, league sources say. Ryan currently plays in the @nbagleague for the @NBAGrandRapids Gold. More NBA from me: marcstein.Substack.com – via Twitter TheSteinLine

I don’t get it. Other teams are signing proven NBA players for their playoff push and the C’s keep bringing in more G-leaguers.

C’s are now 10 games over .500 and only 1.5 games out of 3rd place. Team is on a roll.

"Ryan's averaging 18.6 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game for Grand Rapids; he's shooting 42.6 percent from the field, including taking 9.7 threes per contest and converting them at a 38.7 percent clip."

Sounds like Jaylens ankle injury isn’t too bad. Apparently he wanted to try to go back into the game and the coach preferred being cautious and held him out. Hopefully JB decides to wear ankle braces like Curry and Trae do...

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

Our schedule down the stretch is actually pretty chill. 4 game West trip (but play thunder and kings in that)

Not ideal last three with Memphis, Bucks, Bulls all road games.

Looks like the C’s dodged a bullet. Good to hear..

Unsurprisingly, Ime Udoka said Brown missed Wednesday's practice, adding he's unlikely to play against the Grizzlies on Thursday but does not expect him sidelined long term.
"He was out. Some swelling, pain as well, obviously. More so than last night. Get evaluated in the next few days, unlikely tomorrow, but you never know overnight. It'll be a day-to-day thing."

It’s Neismith’s big break. A lot here (me included) have pleaded Ime to give Neismith some run with the starters. Well, here’s his chance with JB out. I hope he does well (just like PP did when given the opportunity) and show that he belongs.

He had a couple of great looks last night - especially that first 3 - I was willing that one in. But he seems to be unable to rise to the challenge so far.  Rooting for the guy.

“Jayson’s been, for me personally, he’s been huge all year,” Horford said in regard to Tatum’s leadership. “Just in my year, just giving me confidence to be aggressive on offense, to keep shooting the ball through ups and downs. He’s been that voice that’s always encouraging me. And I think that, for him in a moment like that, I was excited, but you could tell how excited he was and how much that fuels our team.”

During their first stint as teammates, a younger Tatum was more focused on developing and learning from veterans like Horford. But one of the biggest differences that Horford has seen in returning to the Celtics this season, is that Tatum has now transitioned into that role of being a vocal, motivational leader. “He has taken a step forward in that regard,” said Horford. “He is being more vocal. He’s letting us know what he’s thinking, how he’s feeling. For me, it gives me a lot of confidence, and it’s encouraging to know that he has my back. He’s obviously really trying to win, he’s trying to do things the right way … Seeing him that excited, that engaged, it’s a good sign for our group.”  – via NBA.com

Pretty cool to see. I remember quotes from Tatum about Horford that were very similar. Pretty good development to see the tables turn in this regard. While Tatum might not be explosive in his expression or emotion, he seems to be a pretty strong leader for us.

Good news on D White. Ime said in the postgame interview that he got a stinger and could have gone back into the game. Phew...

Udoka also said that Nesmith will be re-evaluated tomorrow, but definitely had a good amount of swelling.

Poor guys, tough break.  Folks, we may have seen the last of Nesmith in a C's uniform.

BOSTON -- When Celtics guard Marcus Smart sees Jayson Tatum get going the way the All-Star forward did in the fourth quarter Thursday night against the Memphis Grizzlies, he said his approach becomes a simple one.

"Make sure I'm staying out of his f---ing way," Smart said. "Let him do his thing."
