Like I’ve been saying, Kyrie and LeBron are going to do whatever it takes to get Kyrie in LA this year. The Lakers are royalty, but so are we. And we know KD had us as the runner-up to Golden State in 2016. I really believe this could happen (reminder: JB has not exactly inspired confidence he’s going to be here beyond the remaining two years on his contract, and the competition for KD is fierce, so we’re likely not getting him without giving up JB, a solid rotation player like Batman, and at least two firsts):

BOS In: KD
LAL In: Kyrie
BKN In: JB, G. Williams, Pritchard ($’s are 44K short if we move Kornet instead), Westbrick, 2026 LAL 1st, 2028 LAL 1st, 2025 BOS 1st, 2027 BOS 1st, 2027 LAL 1st swap, 2029 LAL 1st swap

Team-level:

BOS In: KD
BOS Out: JB, G. Williams, Pritchard ($’s are 44K short if we move Kornet instead), 2025 BOS 1st, 2027 BOS 1st

LAL In: Kyrie
LAL Out: Westbrick, 2026 LAL 1st, 2028 LAL 1st, 2027 LAL 1st swap, 2029 LAL 1st swap

BKN In: JB, G. Williams, Pritchard ($’s are 44K short if we move Kornet instead), Westbrick, 2026 LAL 1st, 2028 LAL 1st, 2025 BOS 1st, 2027 BOS 1st, 2027 LAL 1st swap, 2029 LAL 1st swap
BKN Out: KD, Kyrie

We walk away as title favorites, and go all-in by moving our seconds/maybe a swap for a TPE to backup JT, giving us these incredible rotations:

Brogdon/D-White
Smart/D-White
JT/TPE
KD/Gallinari
Timelord/Horford

Bench: Ring-chasing 1/2, ring-chasing 5/4, Hauser, Kornet, Davison and/or Begarin

Forget the taxes. The sales of KD/JT/title merchandise is more than going to pay for the taxes. We get KD above, we make that last move for an elite TPE to backup JT/KD.

The Nets get to walk away saying they got four firsts, an all-star in JB, a future starter in Batman, a rotation guy from the EC champions in Pritchard, and two potentially amazing swaps. And Westbrick can still help them sell tickets being paired with JB and Simmons. They walk away smelling like roses.

What’s really good for the NBA is talk of a Celtics Vs. Lakers Finals with Kyrie Vs. KD being part of the narrative. If the Lakers falter, there’s still the backup scenario of Golden State Vs. Celtics rematch with KD’s legacy on the line as the added narrative. This is win-win-win for everybody. No other scenario is better for us and the NBA than this. THIS is maximum entertainment.

I wouldn't give up even one 1st for KD if Brown was being dealt to Nets. Id say go try to find a better star back for KD. For me it's Brown and fillers for KD. Throw in some pick swaps just to help them save face. It's trading six years of a star player for two years of a superstar player if we are lucky.

When did JB end up with a six year contract? The only guarantee we have with JB right now is two years of his current contract. If we move for KD, we have KD for four years, Smart for four, Timelord for four, JT for three (how does he walk away from the next supermax with those guys around him?), Brogdon for three, and D-White for three. That’s a guarantee for title contention the next three, and I would bank on many beyond that as KD is more likely than most to play as a top 25 player well into his 40s like Kareem before him. Everyone else could last many more years to come.

JB is talking about consulting with Kyrie these days. I’m not banking on him being a Celtic longer than two more years, nor should the team…

delusional.  how's that 4 years of 'contractual control' of KD working out for the Nets?

C's aren't one of KD's destination teams so the likelihood he stays for the full contract is pretty much 0.

What’s your source for us not being one of his preferred destinations? Do you not remember the summer of 2016, when TB12 helped recruit KD and he almost signed here back when we were nobodies? His pal Horford is here, he knows/respects Udoka, he knows/respects Stevens, and he likes the history of this club/Celtic Pride. This is how KD repairs his legacy after what Golden State did last year (and winning a ring in Boston, the place Kyrie foolishly walked away from, erases this Kyrie fiasco from his history). You really believe KD would see a pairing with Booker/CP3 or Butler/Bam as being better than a pairing with JT/Horford/Brogdon/Smart? Come on…

What’s delusional is thinking JB is guaranteed here beyond the next two years.

Chris Haynes and Woj reported that Phoenix and Miami are the top targets for Durant himself, but that Brooklyn doesn't care.

This is also not at all a way for KD to repair his legacy. Jumping to yet another title contender, bailing on the team he committed to for 4 years, and not winning anything in Brooklyn are all terrible looks.

Where are the sources for any of the claims made here?

I want ZERO part of KD. He's a snake. He bolted to join arguably the best team in NBA history. Wanted to do things on his own so went to Brooklyn, demanded they make a move for Harden, traded away the Nets next 5 years of draft control, accepted a 4 year max deal from them, only to demand to be traded on the day free agency started stealing the spotlight from the NBA.

He's an absolute loser. Give me JB all day.

I respect this perspective. I just think the second or third best player in the world is tough to walk away from, especially since the best player in the world (Giannis) is always going to be in our way for the next few years at least.

Yea KD seems to have a worse track record than JB of staying with his team in bad situations.

Forgiven by Celtics fans, sure. I think the wider NBA community would only dislike him more if he jumped to us to win multiple rings.

What’s your source for is not being one of his preferred destinations? Do you not remember the summer of 2016, when TB12 helped recruit KD and he almost signed here back when we were nobodies? His pal Horford is here, he knows/respects Udoka, he knows/respects Stevens, and he likes the history of this club/Celtic Pride. This is how KD repairs his legacy after what Golden State did last year.

All will be forgotten if he helps bring us banners 18, 19, and 20. Can you imagine a 20th banner? 🤤

Will he win more than 2 if he were traded for Brown? He's already 34

We make the deal I’ve outlined and go all-in with the TPE, we will three-peat. KD’s game has never relied on athleticism (Height, length and elite shooting), so I could see him being like Kareem and playing into his 40s. Sports medicine has produced TB12 and I think we are bound to see guys playing into their mid 40s in the NBA soon, too.

Forgiven by Celtics fans, sure. I think the wider NBA community would only dislike him more if he jumped to us to win multiple rings.

Haters gonna hate. I love, love, love the idea of finally landing KD after firmly believing that ship had sailed for good in 2019.

Would be hilarious if Buss has had enough of LeBron “Made in China Billionaire” James and Klutch’s shenanigans, and decides to unilaterally force Kyrie to rot in Brooklyn:

MIA In: LeBron (expiring contract)
LAL In: Lowry, Robinson, 2023 MIA 1st, 2024 MIA 1st swap, 2026 MIA 1st swap, 2027 MIA 1st swap, 2028 MIA 1st swap, 2029 MIA 1st swap (all 5 swaps unprotected)

Commentary: LeBron is an expiring who may be PO’d, but Riley is bound to take the gamble if it means salary dumping Lowry and Robinson without losing any picks except one in 2023 that is bound to be in the 20s—the swaps would be Riley’s bet that the Heat will be better than LA in the future. Riley would also be betting that LeBron will be forced to play out his career in Miami to try to salvage his legacy since Cleveland and LA have had enough.

CHI In: AD (hometown is Chicago)
DET In: Vucevic (expiring contract)
LAL In: Caruso, Olynyk, Javonte Green, 2023 POR 1st via CHI, 2026 CHI 1st, 2027 DET 1st

Commentary: To wash their hands of the last remnants of LeBron, buyout  Westbrick. Lots of cap room once Lowry and Robinson come off the books in 2-3 years. If Giannis doesn’t win another ring in Milwaukee, perhaps they convince him to be the next big Laker in 3-4 years. Same goes for Jokic in Denver.

Net gains for LA after ridding themselves of King Klutch:

2023 POR 1st via CHI
2023 MIA 1st
2024 MIA 1st swap
2026 CHI 1st
2026 MIA 1st swap
2027 DET 1st
2027 MIA 1st swap
2028 MIA 1st swap
2029 MIA 1st swap

And that’s how you do a rebuild if you’re LA facing reality: There are no other rings possible with LeBron/AD in LA.
