Only on Celticsblog that people are afraid to face the Nets.
I don’t think this is true. I think everyone has a healthy respect for Durant. The nets played like a 50 win team when he was in the lineup and he almost beat the champion bucks basically by himself last year. I am actually getting a bit worried how arrogant some fans on here are being about this. Not good karma.
I'm more worried why fans aren't excited to face the Nets. After the run the Celtics had this year, with Marcus Smart likely to become DPOY (seriously why is NO ONE on this site is talking about this?). This is an elite team ready and focused, if they're truly worthy of becoming champions then they should be able to beat the Nets.
I think the C’s win in 6 or 7 games, but that doesn’t mean I’d prefer to have to face the Nets first round. Boston played them at home a month ago and they needed a 54 point performance out of Tatum to get that win. It was tight the whole way. I have no idea why people think this is going to be an easy series, especially with Simmons likely back for game 3 in Brooklyn. The C’s have the most difficult path to the Finals as they will need to go though the Nets and more than likely the Bucks, followed by the Heat. That’s a brutal draw.
Because Brooklyn has looked so incredibly vulnerable since then.
The Nets finished the season 10-5 and they took care of Cle rather easily in the play-in. That doesn’t sound like an incredibly vulnerable team to me. Toronto and Chicago are the vulnerable teams.
And we have lost 6 times since January ended. They also did not take care of Cleveland rather easily - they continuously failed to put them away, despite Jarrett Allen not playing (also, it's Cleveland!)
Nets were up 40-20 after the first quarter. They had the game in hand from start to finish. Again, I think the C’s win the series, but I don’t really think it’s debatable that Brooklyn will be more of a challenge than either Toronto or Chicago would have been.
Yeah I don’t really get why people are acting like this will be a cakewalk. I obviously hope I am wrong, but would be absolutely shocked if we won in 4 or 5 (and I don’t think I am generally negative about the team).
Please point out who's saying it'll be a cakewalk. Acting scared over Brooklyn is just ridiculous, if the Celtics are as good as people on this site has been bragging about for weeks until of the season, then they'll beat them. The road to a championship is not easy so people here need to stop acting like getting the second seed is some death sentence. For crying out loud a few months ago people were ready to blow it up. Now the Celtics are contenders, Smart is likely DPOY and people ARE STILL wailing. Relax and enjoy the ride, the Celtics are ready It seems of all the sites, Celticsblog is the only Celtics site that are scared.
Or you know, espn or every other national or regional media site that has the series as a toss up.
I don't think the toss-up conclusions are particularly logical. They seem to be based off of a fear of what Brooklyn might be, rather than what they have actually been
Yes, that’s where I’m at. Since Durant returned, Brooklyn has had the 3rd best offense in the NBA. So yeah, they can score. But over the same period, the Celtics were the best, and the distance between the Celtic at 1 and Brooklyn at 3 was the same as Brooklyn and the number 15 team. And on defense, obviously they aren’t comparable.
The Celtics are simply better. Sure, the defense might not stop the Nets every night, but on no nights will the Nets stop the Celtics.
