Losing Lopez will no doubt hurt the Bucks especially if he out for the year..they did get Cousins but I say at trade deadline they may get another center

I am just finding out now about Brook Lopez's back surgery. No timetable for return and who knows what he'd look like if and when he does.

It's really hard to get a feel for the Eastern Conference this year, and the Celtics' chances. On the one hand, it looks like there's a ton of good clubs in the conference now -- the Sixers right now are at .500 and are the 11th seed -- and there are few cupcakes. On the other hand, other than the Nets I don't see any other elite teams (Bucks certainly don't look it now).

I could see the Celtics in the Eastern Finals or as the 11th seed picking in the lottery. Wild.

Losing Lopez obviously is a blow, but losing your at best 4th best player doesn't really change your team's outlook all that much.  The Bucks were 6-8 and had won 8 straight until last night's loss to the Raptors, which was the 2nd night of a back-to-back and on the road with travel playing against a team that hasn't traveled in a week and had a full day off in between games.  And most importantly, Giannis didn't play either. 

Other than the Nets, the Bucks, even without Lopez, are clearly and significantly better than everyone in the East.

East now has a 3 game edge on the West.  Over the last week or so it has been floating between like 3 and 5. 

The records on the whole are starting to even out some.  The two worst records are in the East, but the next 4 are in the West.  The 2 best and 3 of 4 best records are in the West.  The East is better record wise in the mid-tier of the playoffs and play-in game.  There are 13 teams that are either .500 or within 2 games of .500, which is a shockingly high number for this point in the season, but I think that is brought about by the 2 incredibly good teams (over .850) and the 5 incredibly bad teams (under .300) record wise.

Lol come on man. You just pointed out there are 13 teams within 2 games of .500 in the East. This is literally what the definition of a deep conference is. I am not sure if you are just joking or trolling at this point so don’t know how in depth to go here. But if you have two conferences and the 11th seed in one is .500 and the 11th seed in the other is 9-14 this is literally the definition of a deep conference. I’ll add the 12th seed in East is 10-13 and the west is 7-13. This is what the term deep means. It is derived from depth, it has nothing to do with if three of the top 4 teams are in one conference. I honestly can’t tell if you are trying to bust my chops here at this point, are being intentionally obtuse, don’t understand the terms or what. I mean we can do a poll on this or something but it is just weird. Simmons, lowe, nba ringer podcast guys etc all routinely talk about how deep the East is… this isn’t controversial stuff. So be honest, what is your deal here?
