Another 50 spot (actually 51).  Saddiq Bey in the Pistons win over the Magic.

He’s no Angry Bird Nesmith.

is bay that good?- hes not even the best guy on the Crap Pistons.

Pistons have actually became halfway respectable the last 35 games or so. Large part being Cade Cunningham playing a lot better.

Also did adding Marvin Bagley actually ... help them?

Someone forgot to tell Saddiq he wasn't playing the Celtics last night.

Imagine not being a finished product at 23 and no longer playing for arguably the worst team in the NBA when it comes to developing talent.

Bagley has been very good in Detroit.  It is why I wanted the C's to acquire him.  He has immense talent.  He could be very good for a very long time.  Just needed to be healthy and away from Luke Walton.

The thing that kept me believing in Bagley was that he was always a hustle/effort guy. With his size and talent, as long as he continued to be a hard worker, he was going to have a productive nba player-floor. Would have loved to pick him out of Sacramento.

I have always been curious about Bagley.  Numbers always seemed good.  Has the NBA body.  But for some reason, SAC didn't seem to want him as part of the future.  There is probably something to that, just not clear to me what that something may be.

As to Bagley's offseason, he is a RFA with a qualifying offer of about $14.8M.  I think Detroit can make that QO to him if they want.  He would end up in a situation much like Markkanen last offseason where his best offer may not even be more than the QO.  To get him, we would likely have to do a sign and trade which would hard cap us.  I don't expect the Celtics to do a S&T for that reason but it is possible.

To me, in theory at least, he is exactly what we need.  An athletic, full-sized big with some ability to score.  He is not a 3pt shooter but he is a career 14'ish points, 7-8 rebound player, even under the less than ideal conditions he has played in.

Probably the best thing for him to do is to take the QO from Detroit (assuming they offer it) and try to show the league something.  Then hit it as an UFA and try to cash in big.

2. Boston Celtics
Since Jan. 1—as the big Omicron wave that hit the NBA started to die down—the Celtics are first in defense (by a significant margin), eighth in offense, and first in net rating. The five-man group of Marcus Smart, Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Rob Williams and Al Horford is by far the NBA’s best lineup this season. That fivesome has a 24.0 net rating in 404 minutes together, the highest of any group that’s played at least 200 minutes. (For context: Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Kevin Durant, Andre Iguodala, and Draymond Green posted a 22.4 net in 2017.) Meanwhile, Derrick White and Grant Williams are incredibly solid players to bring off the bench, allowing the Celtics to match size when they want to.

The fears for Boston will be shooting, as well as spots eight and nine in the rotation. Can they survive Payton Pritchard and possible Daniel Theis minutes in the playoffs? Who will step up outside of Tatum in close games, in which the Cs have had some issues this year?

For me, their defense is so elite, so suffocating, Boston can overcome offensive issues in a way most teams can’t. Seriously, the Celtics top-seven players offer no targets for opponents. Beyond that, Tatum has shown in the past he can go bucket for bucket with historically great offensive players. While it’s not always been efficient, you can do worse than Tatum attacking switches down the stretch of a fourth quarter. Combine all of that with a core that’s built chemistry through years of playoff runs, and I’m pretty high on the Celtics.

Doesn't sound like Kyrie is going to suit up in Brooklyn any time soon:

Always liked Bagley too, but how's his defense?

POR up 13 vs BKN with a 75 point first half. Nice D. POR has been the worst scoring team since the ASG and Dame isn't playing. Kris Dunn has been disruptive with 3 steals and looks fine physically FWIW.

I know a lot of people want to avoid the Nets in the first round, but I'm not one of them. The more time they have to put the pieces together, the more trouble they'll be.

Portland is literally throwing their games. They will lose by ten.

If Kyrie can play in Boston and KD is healthy, we're screwed. I'd still avoid them like a plague.

Such a defeatist attitude.

If the Celtics have done anything in 2022 it's that they have proven they can beat anyone, even in a 7 game series.

Anyone.

It just hit me that there's only like 10-12 games left around the league this season.

The last few months in particular feel like they've just flown by.
