But I would note that Stevens gave Romeo the starts in the postseason when Jaylen was out, and now Udoka gave him the start in the preseason when Jaylen was out.  That’s two coaches who seem to have Romeo higher in the pecking order.

A few things:

1.  Romeo is more of a SG than Nesmith;

2.  They played roughly equal minutes;

3.  Most importantly, don’t we have to make decision’s on Romeo’s and Grant’s options by the end of the month?  If so, those guys will obviously get a longer look.

That said, if Romeo can hit his threes, he’s a keeper.

1.  Agreed that Romeo is more of a SG than Nesmith, but I would also say that Nesmith is at least as much of a shooting guard as Jaylen is, and the point was that when Jaylen went out, Romeo got the starts, so it wasn’t something solely based on position.

2. Yes, it’s the preseason, so a lot of guys are getting near equal minutes.  Point is Romeo did get the first crack with the starters — they easily could have given that to Josh Richardson.

3.  We technically have to make a decision on Nesmith’s option too, but I will concede the point, although I’ve never really felt Langford’s option was too much in doubt.  Grant is playing for his option tho, I agree.

Can we sell high on Romeo and Nesmith now?

I hope he keeps hitting threes because he could be a 3 D guard.

Let me repeat, I still have Romeo over nesmith.
This thread wasn't revived after the first preseason game. Curious.

I think Nesmith does just as well with the open looks Romeo got from playing alongside Tatum, Horford and Smart.
He did well the first game too.  Now it’s just becoming more obvious.

I think both guys can really help our bench this season.

  • Peace it's a board. We all will never agree.
Romeo was a top 5 talent as a senior in HS. Him and Nesmith to me could play together and i hope i see. Stackhouse said no one works harder than Nesmith. Romeo has had tough breaks but he has always played hard and took nothing for granted. I am excited for them both but as I have said Romeo is a ebtter prospect than Aaron to me.

I got them each  as more valuable in a trade than Josh who shoots worse than Smart.

I think Romeo + Nesmith together > Evan Fournier so combined they should be able to fill the role of our 4th scorer.

Loving what I see so far from Langford and Nesmith. Think we may have quality depth and potential starters/6MOTY in 2-3 years. Perhaps they truly soar and may become our hedge against JB or Tatum jumping ship for LA or NY.

Hedge against Tatum and Brown, their nowhere near that, but thanks for starting my day with a funny joke.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I am still a believer in Romeo, but from what we've seen in SL through last night, it is clear that Nesmith has blown by him - both figuratively, in terms of growth, and literally, with his surprising ability to score at multiple levels.

I am sure the team still loves Romeo's defense and they definitely want him to be successful, but Nesmith has really improved in his short time here.

Nesmith is ahead of Romeo, but the gap is not as big as you make it sound ("blown by him").  Romeo is still superior in creating his own shot (Nesmith can't do this at all) and on-ball defense.  I had just about given up on Romeo but now I think there's a shot he could be a useful player.

The big issue for Romeo, I think, is going beyond simple reads. I agree he’s better at beating his man off the dribble, but he’s not very good at seeing the help and reacting. He’ll blow by his man and when the help is there he’ll try to get his shot off over two defenders instead of making a pass that would create a much easier shot. He gets better at that and I like his ceiling.

Nesmith is still my dude.  Glad he showed out last night.

I think Romeo has finally looked like a passable offensive player, along with his good D.
