Brown made a noticeable leap last season from the season prior.  His ball handling, shooting,  passing,  shot creation all took another step

Tatum improvement was more incremental

Tatum may always remain the popular one between the two.  But at this rate, could Brown actually surpass Tatum... as the better player?

I already like Brown better at the defensive end, though Tatum does hold some advantages (size and length). Brown just works harder at that end imo.  More attempts to steal and block the ball. Physicality aspect

Please explain how that is a possibility when the keys have been handed to JT?

I think this will be true only in the eyes of JB fans. I mean, JB is a special player for sure. But other than playing through contact and guarding 1-2, I don’t see where JB is better than Tatum.

Also, from an age perspective, isn’t it the historical trend that JB would have already taken his one last “leap” last year and thus moving forward, he’ll still improve but in smaller incremental steps? Whereas Tatum has one more “leap” left in him (theoretically)?

I don’t think so. Tatum had multiple 50pt games and a 60pt game. He put the C’s on his back and willed them to a win against a Nets team with all 3 of their stars playing. Jayson is on another level offensively. Defensively they are about even.

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

Jaylen Brown 42 pts is no small potatoes

And he did it while shooting 15/21

Tatum scored 60 taking 37 shots

I don't think this a good barometer to compare the two.  If Brown took 30 plus shots that game,  he probably scores 55+

How many 50 or 60 pt games did Lebron, Tim Duncan etc have in their careers?

Its not a great indicator as to how good a player is

Really isn't even a discussion. Tatum is the guy the other team schemes to stop. He's the guy the defense can do everything right and still fail.

All-nba team, Olympics, 2 time player of the month, 50 points vs. Nets carrying us to our only win. The only people who see these 2 as equals are over-the-top Brown fans.

The Celtics are lucky they have two young studs that warrant this discussion.  Currently I see JT as the alpha 1a with JB as 1b.  May change this year but I doubt it.

Nope.  Tatum is a future approximation of Durant; Brown is in the range of Jimmy Butler (lesser handles, better jumper).

I think this is a dream/lofty ceiling

Tatum is closer to a younger Carmelo Anthony with a better 3 pt shot

Durant "clutchness" and rare consistency to do it on a nightly basis .....   Tatum is not at that level

Young Carmelo with a better shot and better coaching would be a rough approximation of Kevin Durant.
