Time travel through the decades at C's games in 2021-22

The team announced in a series of tweets Friday that it will be hosting several "Decade Night" celebrations throughout the season, though not in chronological order.

First up, the Celtics will celebrate the 1980s on Nov. 22 at home against the Houston Rockets, whom Boston knocked off in 1986 to win its third title of the decade.

------------------------------

On Dec. 20, the team will turn it back to the 1960s when the Philadelphia 76ers come to town. Though the Celtics won the majority of their championships in that decade against the Los Angeles Lakers, Boston did knock the Sixers out of the postseason four times.

------------------------------

Two nights later, flash forward to the 2000s, where the Celtics will celebrate the turn of the century against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Boston beat Cleveland in seven games in the 2008 Eastern Conference semifinals en route to its most recent title, highlighted by the showdown between Paul Pierce and LeBron James in Game 7.

------------------------------

On New Year's Eve, the Celtics welcome the Phoenix Suns to the TD Garden to celebrate the 1970s. Boston's second and last title of the decade was won against Phoenix, a series which included the legendary triple-overtime win for the C's in Game 5.

------------------------------

The Celtics remember the most recent decade, the 2010s, on Jan. 31 against the Miami Heat. It's a curious choice, given the Heat eliminated the Celtics from the playoffs in both 2011 and 2012 -- the final defeat representing Boston's last best chance at another title with its Big 3 of Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen.

------------------------------

Dial it all the way back to the 1950s, the first full decade of the Celtics' existence, on March 31 when the team welcomes in the Atlanta Hawks. Boston beat the franchise, then based in St. Louis, for its first title in 1957.

------------------------------

Lastly, the Celtics will honor the 1990s, a decade to forget for the team, on April 1 against the Indiana Pacers. Boston never advanced beyond the conference semifinals and missed the postseason each of the final four years of the decade. At least Paul Pierce was drafted in 1998...

Interesting. I wonder what they are doing specifically for those celebrations.

No Lakers?

No Lakers?

No need for gimmicks with the Lakers, Nets, etc.

Good point. I'd be nice to honor the Lakers rivalry though and remind them of all the big wins over them through the years.
