Beal eligible for a mega extension next offseason

The question might end up being, will Washington offer that kind of extension. Charlotte wouldn't offer Kemba the max contract he was eligible for, and they were better off when he left.

Beal will absolutely be offered that extension unless he gets hurt (and even then he still might).  If the Wizards weren't planning on it, they would have traded him this summer when teams undoubtedly called.  Washington's worry is that he won't sign it.

I have no doubt the Wizards received offers for Beal. However, were they legitimate offers for a player of Beal's caliber? Players like Jrue Holiday and Harden were included in trades that brought back multiple first round picks. Were the Wizards demanding a trade of a similar nature, but denied?

If the Wizards do offer that deal, would they be the first team to have had 3 players to have had supermax deals (Wall, Westbrook, Beal)?

The one they can offer now, but not the one next summer.  The one next summer is the 5 year contract at 35% with max raises because Beal will be a 10 year veteran.

The one they offer now would not be a "Supermax" either.  It'd just be a regular max extension, built off a 20% raise from this year's salary that could go no higher than the 35% max, but could come in lower (which it would by a small amount based on the current cap projection).

It is the a supermax though.  It is 35% of the cap, which is what the supermax is, it just isn't earlier than 10 years because he will be at 10 years.

I think Beal is happy in Washington. Also happy with a boat load of cash.

Yeah, I think Beal is happy in DC, and would have made waves otherwise (see every other NBA player that has been unhappy in their situation).

This won't be a popular sentiment around here, but does anyone think that Tatum might want to join Beal in DC? The Celtics have a storied history, and Tatum would have to compete with the greats. Both will make tons of money in their career, so I'd imagine legacy is going to be a factor (esp. if both players continue on their trajectory).

Tatum and Beal in DC could be the most exciting thing in franchise history. It's going to be hard to top Larry and Bill Russell in Boston.
