Per ESPN's salary cap expert Bobby Marks, Beal can sign a contract with the Wizards worth about $181.5 million over four years this offseason ($45.4M annually), or wait until next offseason and sign for about $235 million over five years ($47M annually). He currently has a player option for the 2022-23 season, which was the second year on the two-year extension he signed in 2019, worth a projected $37.3 million.

Who is going to walk away from 47m annually?? Especially for a player once considered John Wall sidekick

The more you think about it...  Beal is not going anywhere, as long as the big money keeps rolling in.  Perhaps by the 4th or 5th year of the contract if Wizards are planning to rebuild again, he will ask out

I guess you can say,  Beal and his situation with Wizards ... is what the NBA was hoping for, to avoid mega teams from forming.

The question might end up being, will Washington offer that kind of extension. Charlotte wouldn't offer Kemba the max contract he was eligible for, and they were better off when he left.

Beal will absolutely be offered that extension unless he gets hurt (and even then he still might).  If the Wizards weren't planning on it, they would have traded him this summer when teams undoubtedly called.  Washington's worry is that he won't sign it.

If he believes in himself and his own durability, his best option is probably to sign a 1 + 1 deal, and then opt out in year 2 for a 5 year max contract.  It doesn't particularly matter if he does that with Washington or another team.

They will

They gave John Wall that type of extension

Beal is the face of that franchise

Not sure what you mean.  Why would he sign that deal?  He’s eligible for the 35% max next summer.  A 2+1 with a new team would let him get max raises in two seasons, but a 1+1 doesn’t help that process along.

My bad, I thought he had completed eight years instead of nine.

I have no doubt the Wizards received offers for Beal. However, were they legitimate offers for a player of Beal's caliber? Players like Jrue Holiday and Harden were included in trades that brought back multiple first round picks. Were the Wizards demanding a trade of a similar nature, but denied?

If the Wizards do offer that deal, would they be the first team to have had 3 players to have had supermax deals (Wall, Westbrook, Beal)?

Beal’s extension would not technically be a supermax, so no.

Beal is a much more tradable commodity than Kemba has been at any point in his career. Washington knows they can trade Beal at any time, so I can't imagine they won't sign him, if they're serious at all about improving their team.

That is max money only like 2-3 years ago...

at this rate... we could see 100 million per season in the next 10-15 years

So Beal can opt out of $37.3M for 2022-23 and sign an extension for 4 years at $45.4M per (FA again at age 32), or play next season for $37.3M and sign for 5 years at $47.0M (FA again at 34).  I think he is better off taking the raise next off season.  You never know what is going to happen (just ask Oladipo or Schroder).  If he is still a top player at 32, he can start doing 1 + 1 contracts and probably end up with close to the same money with less risk.

I almost hate to say it but wouldn't a Beal for Simmons + Maxey + Picks deal make a lot of sense for both teams?  Much like I thought Kemba was a perfect fit next to Embiid, Beal is that but better.  I am not sure how much better either team could do in a trade involving these players.  Washington would be better off keeping Beal and giving him the big contract if they are sure they can keep him happy.  Simmons, Maxey, picks may not be a bad return though if you have any concern he may walk at some point.

I know everyone wants Beal on the Celtics but I don't see how we could match this type of offer unless Brown at a minimum is involved (and we likely would have to add more).  Philly gets better trading Simons for Beal, a better fit, a better complementary player for Embiid.  For us it is more of lateral.  Brown is not a bad fit for us, Beal might be a little better.  Simmons is a bad fit next to Embiid so much easier for them to give him up (and he wants out).

The one they can offer now, but not the one next summer.  The one next summer is the 5 year contract at 35% with max raises because Beal will be a 10 year veteran.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

The one they offer now would not be a "Supermax" either.  It'd just be a regular max extension, built off a 20% raise from this year's salary that could go no higher than the 35% max, but could come in lower (which it would by a small amount based on the current cap projection).

I think Beal is happy in Washington. Also happy with a boat load of cash.
