There's a chance the 2nd rounders will be heavily protected, like 31-55, or be extinguished.

I also didn't see where we got a TPE out of the deal.

otherwise , what do the Celts get out of it?

Its like going to a restaurant ....enjoying your meal....and manager paying you money for eating also

Per source, the Celtics sent the Knicks the top-55 protected 2023 Hornets second-round pick, and *deep breath* the worst of: the worst of OKC/Was or the better of Miami/Dallas

Man, we got so close to executing my idea of trading Thompson and Fournier to third-parties as the outgoing salary for Beal.  Sadly we’ll just get trade exceptions.

Wyc becoming a cheapie?

Apparently they are heavily protected 2nd rounders:

So basically we got the TPE for free.
Definitely the Pitino of the 21st century  8)
Edit: Wait this creates a TPE right?

Gaining a $17 million trade exception gives them an opportunity to add a large salary either this year or next summer.  Does not mean he’s a cheapie at all.

the other poster stated ... he didn't see TPE with regards to the trade

Adam Himmelsbach didn't mention TPE

So is this a guess or are you sure?

The Knicks don't "send" Boston a TPE. Trading a guy into someone's cap space, which is what Boston is doing here, automatically creates one. It's being widely reported by others the TPE was created though, if that helps you believe.

I'm sure.  It's the rules of the CBA.  If you send someone a salary and either get one salary back that's less than what you sent, or no salary at all, you get one.  That's the only reason the Celtics made this deal.

The press release says it was a sign and trade in exchange for cash considerations. So does “cash considerations” equate to a TPE? I am more surprised as to why the Knicks did this. They could have just signed Fournier outright, am I correct? This certainly is a weird S&T.

Lauri or Larry Nance if you want to use it before the season starts...
First thing I thought of as well. Think Markkanen would be good fit.
We cannot make a sign and trade cause we have used the taxpayer MLE. Here's the exact quote from Larry Coon's CBA FAQ:

Quote from: Larry Coon's CBA FAQ
The team cannot receive a player in a sign-and-trade if they have used the Taxpayer Mid-Level exception (see question number 25) that season.
