I don't know why he gets all the blame. That was a toxic toxic relationship on both sides.

He's the only one in the relationship arrested for it, right?  And he's the only one who plead guilty.  And she's the one who the kids stayed with when he abandoned them.

I don't think there is any evidence or any court finding that 6'4" professional athlete Jason Kidd was a battered husband.

I just don’t read Jason Kidd’s approach here as anything that unique. Does it translate well to NBA players? Possibly not. But anyone who has ever been through a boot camp or a paramilitary environment has gone through something similar or worse.

These reports remind me of two people:

(1) Scott Skiles -- Kidd's coach in Phoenix for a couple of years. A disciplinarian through and through. Also the best defensive performances from a Suns team over that 90s-00s period where they had lots of success.

(2) Gary Payton -- Kidd's childhood mentor who would torture him on the playgrounds verbally, mentally and physically. Who Kidd credits with helping him grow the toughness he needed to succeed.

I just don't buy that at all.  Victim blaming at its finest.  It is pretty clear Kidd was a serial abuser.  It started before they were married and continued long after he pled guilty to it.  There is absolutely nothing anywhere that would lead anyone to believe that she was violent towards him other than his divorce filing (those are always incredibly self serving).

I don't who started it a man should not beat a woman, period.   Only in a case of life or death would most people find it acceptable and even then you want to tell me he could leave the situation or restrain her as an ex professional athlete.

My memory is that the reports said Kidd closed fist punched her in the face.  Even if she hit first that is the response of a toxic human being.
