Wasn't Kidd's wife beating him up too?

I don't know why he gets all the blame. That was a toxic toxic relationship on both sides.

He's the only one in the relationship arrested for it, right?  And he's the only one who plead guilty.  And she's the one who the kids stayed with when he abandoned them.

I don't think there is any evidence or any court finding that 6'4" professional athlete Jason Kidd was a battered husband.

He obviously has some awful tendencies of abuse, but Giannis has said several times that he needed what Kidd brought to the table for Giannis to become the player he did.  He needed someone to really "push" him.  Maybe Giannis becomes the best player in the world without Kidd, but he started his rise and made significant leaps year after year while Kidd was the coach so Kidd must have been doing something right with Giannis (and Middleton who also improved significantly under Kidd).

And Kidd is obviously a terrible human being from what has been reported publicly, sometimes that just doesn't matter where sports are concerned though.

It's one thing to pull that kind of stuff with a young Milwaukee team, when the only vets are journeymen like Zaza and Dudley (and KMart for all of of 11 games), but I'm curious as to what it was like when Kidd coached Brooklyn.

Hard to pull rank like that when KG and Pierce are essentially your equals.  Terry and Collins were your actual teammates.  Joe Johnson, Deron Williams, and Kirilenko were All-Stars in the past.

Like what happens if Kidd tried to push KG over the limit?   Of course KG himself was probably engaging in similar behaviour, so maybe they saw eye to eye.

But still interested to see how that all went down.

After 18 months with their Bigs, the Littles were: 46% less likely to use illegal drugs, 27% less likely to use alcohol, 52% less likely to skip school, 37% less likely to skip a class

Hard to interpret this one:

"Players had to finish a fast-break drill in twenty-two seconds, but twenty-seven was the team's best record.  They did it over and over until they made it."

So did they hit 22 seconds?  If they did actually cut 5 seconds off their own record, that's impressive, and gives some credit to that style, no matter how unpleasant.

So… he’s essentially like every drill instructor, ever?

except it isn't the military.  He made Sanders sick enough for him to check into and stay overnight in hospital.  He didn't return to the team.

It sounds like Larry Sanders had a lot of problems outside of basketball.

I just don’t read Jason Kidd’s approach here as anything that unique. Does it translate well to NBA players? Possibly not. But anyone who has ever been through a boot camp or a paramilitary environment has gone through something similar or worse.

Hmmmmm….some personality disorders do thrive in certain occupations. You almost have to be sadist to be a drill sergeant. A obsessive compulsive to be a mathematician perhaps.

“Kidd would embarrass the culprit of an error by making the entire team run except for the person who committed the error”

My wrestling coaches use to do this.  I don’t really see a problem with it at all.

As far as everything else goes, it just confirms what pretty much everyone already knew, that Kidds a piece of trash.  Especially the Giannis incident, what a great way to lose your teams respect or any kind of desire to please you.
