That is to say, the SUMMER league!

Seriously, Pritchard is looking so good out there and I think the coaching staff needs to consider sitting him. There’s no point evaluating him out there. The dude is a baller! Get him to training camp healthy and let him compete for a starting spot!

You got me…

I agree, unless our coaching staff is hellbent on winning the SL for some reason he should sit. He’s dominating

No wonder, since he was basically a solid rotation player during his rookie year already.

An alternate take:

I've watched about half of both games. Atlanta sent out a reasonably talented group. Denver did not.

Pritchard looks even better at what he was great at last year. It appears he will be a truly excellent 3 point shooter, which will give him a steady NBA job for the foreseeable future.

I did not see him improve at his separation skills. Against better NBA players, he needs to be able to create space and penetrate when someone is locked in in front of him, and he does not appear any better at that. I don't think the Denver game showed anything because he was playing against such a weak team.

I'd like t see him stay and work on that.

I’d keep playing him.  He still needs working running an offense, dribble drives, defensive positioning, etc.

Maybe if the coaches had a second PG, but if he leaves this team will struggle badly.

  • Ashy To Classy, baby.
Vice Presidential duties, I presume.
My pic is now, and will be Fab Melo until he posts his first official NBA dbl-dbl. This may be permanent.

Payton Pritchard Soph-Jr-Sr stats for the ducks

GS - 105
MP - 35.8
FG% - 44.6
3PT - 238 for 316 - 38.7% (41.5% Sr year)
FT - 290 for 357 - 81.2%
Ast - 4.8
PPG - 15.6 (20.5 PPG Sr year)
TOV - 2.2
STL - 1.5

If you add his freshman year, he basically started 140 games in college. No stranger to basketball here.

He overcomes his size by linking up underneath with the big he's on the court with pretty well. He doesn't have serious hops and extension for layups, but who cares.

In his last 12 regular season NBA games he shot 27 for 63 from three (42.8%).

I say let him play point guard. Have him on the court with an athletic defense minded shooting guard and no one will notice.

As he builds his cred, it will open up the floor and give him some nice assist opportunities.

Agreed, not sure why he's playing most of these SL games. He's a level headed kid though, basically ran the Ducks program for 4 years, happy to take the last shot...not affected by the "moment."

And he has played himself out of the league. The Summer League, of course.

Payton Pritchard's run with the Boston Celtics' NBA Summer League team in Las Vegas has come to an end.

“We were able to talk as a team and an organization and Payton won’t be with us the rest of the way,” Celtics Summer League coach Joe Mazzulla told reporters Friday. “That’s a prior engagement he made months ago and it’s something we honored. We'll be moving forward”

Fair enough, he looks levels above everyone else on the floor (besides Nesmith!)

Yes, I mentioned on the Summer League thread I'm ok with it. He's clearly made some big improvements to his game, not just shooting but his judgment and making the right reads and running the play. Let's see who else (Yam? Juhann?) can grab the opportunity his absence leaves and see who gets that 2nd 2 way spot.
