Take it Marcus. Learn from Schroders mistake, haha.
Quoting Nick from the now locked Ime thread:

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

exactly, take the money, you are one big injury away from a big reduction in value if that injury hits in a contract year.

If Plan A is cap space for FA '22 I'm not sure understand this.  But others have suggested that signing Fournier would have been OK because he'd have been tradeable -- I guess the same would be said for Smart.   I suppose trading him on a multi-year contract at fair money would make him more attractive than as an expiring.  What are the implications if he turns it down?

This is stupid, he can not shoot, can not pay your role players before acquiring your stars, if this happens I wish brand had gone to Indiana.

having to trade him before the deadline to not lose him for nothing?
having him and DS (if signed) both trying to increase their value and causing team chemistry problems?

I don't understand our approach either honestly.  Either you want cap space, or you don't.  Maybe all of the big free agents (that were supposed to be in next years class) that were resigning early with their current teams made Brad and company change their approach.  I agree it doesn't make sense, but then just going for 'flexibility' and cap space didn't make much sense either when there were only 1 or 2 reasonable candidate for that cap space, and even those were moving targets.

That’s his max extension offer.  It includes $2.7 million in incentives.

My guess is its less than he feels he can get in free agency, and probably the Celtics feel the same way.  This means that if he signs it, it should be movable if needed to acquire Beal.  If he doesn’t sign it, he won’t feel insulted by the Celtics, because they’ve given him the max allowed as an extension.  Cranky Marcus Smart in the 2017-2018 season was not fun to watch.

Agreed. Gotta take that. Hard to get more than that in FA. Not worth risking. Especially for a guy like Marcus who has had numerous injuries in his career and down spells where his shooting has abandoned him. Take the guaranteed money. Don't gamble.

You may not get more and even if you do it is unlikely to be much more than what is currently on the table so take the guaranteed money. Avoid the risk.

Pretty much.   Could extend Timelord too, and still trade either or both.

I have a feeling Marcus will pass on the offer. No reason other than he over estimates his value.
