I'll believe it when I see it. He was likely to be traded at the 2021 trade deadline as well (for Aaron Gordon at the time).

I wouldn't be against trading anybody for the right price.

That's the ticket be cheap and don't compete for a title and then trade away my favorite player and the heart of the team Way to go Wyc.

Stevens was so frustrated with Smart last year that he played him 3rd most minutes on the team, behind Brown and Tatum.

Brand new coach Udoka said what Smart does in "invaluable".

This all sounds like smoke being blown to me. Not because Smart definitely won't be traded but it just all sounds like blind speculation from people trying to sound like they have some kind of information.

So one day we have Celtics players mad at Stevens because he relied on Smart a lot and gave him "special" treatment, and in the other hand Stevens is frustrated with Smart.

OK...

Yeah, I thought this was funny too.

Anyway, Mannix isn't really a guy worth listening to, as far as trade/signing scoops go.  Not a very good track record.  I wouldn't pay any attention to this.
I do think he's just speculating.  But Smart is starting to decline and his shot selection still sucks.

All I know is I've felt this way about Smart for a while.  Last year there were a lot more comments about this because in prior years Marcus would make plays throughout the game that just made you go wow.  No one else can do that.  Last year we saw less of those games and more of the stuff that frustrated us so it was talked about a lot more.  Seeing marcus take a possession away from Brown and Tatum had me yelling at the TV.  I hate when Marcus shoots more then 8 times a game.  If he's wide open great.  If he's on the post great.  When he starts throwing up heat checks, contested shots etc I can't stand to watch him play on the offensive end.

This is what concerns me combined with my concerns as to how well Smart will age. I am not convinced a player with his body type & skill-level offensively will age all that well. He will be useful for a long time but I believe he will have an early and short peak similar to Ron Artest.

If Smart had a higher skill-level in terms of outside shooting, shot selection & overall decision making ... I would be more optimistic about him maintaining higher standards into his 30s ... but without that, he is reliant on athleticism, energy and health to maintain that defensive effort night in night out.

He picks up injuries on the regular. I am just not sold on Smart aging well into his 30s and with a new contract on the horizon it is very much an issue worth considering.

I think you bring up a good point about ageing.
Plus, he's on the last year of his contract so Cs will need to figure out if they are going to pay him next summer. Might be better to part with him now to get something in return.
I get that Smart is the "heart and soul" and I love how hard he plays.
But, I've talked myself into the idea that it is probably time to move on.
Celtics fan for life.

Smart for a signed-and-traded Alex Caruso.  Lakers don't want to lose him for nothing and he gives C's Smart's defense with better everything else.

I don't know about "media articles" as it is their job to talk about things. I've seen the Celtics "mentioned" with interest in Reggie Jackson, Spencer Dinwiddie, Isaiah Thomas and Ball in the last week....whatever.

I do know this...
The Celtics don't have a point guard beyond Smart and Pritchard.
They haven't extended Smart in his last year.
They just  traded "assets" for two veterans "who play point guard."

If you want to keep the player you extend him.

Unless Smart's contract situation changes he'll be traded as I assume he and his agent won't be looking to play this season on an expiring deal and end up in one of the most star studded FA markets ever next year.

Would Stevens get much back for Smart? The right team will give his value. i really wish I could guess. I know Popovich loves him, but I don't know if he'd want to have him on the Spurs.

I wonder how expensive Smart's next deal would be as it would help define who'd be willing and able to pay.

If he is traded I bet he plays really well for his next team and it's not to say he wasn't a great player here, last year was really rough for everybody on this team.

To be clear, I LOVE Marcus Smart.

He's not untouchable though. For the right deal, I'm perfectly fine with trading him especially if it leads to us getting that 3rd piece either for this upcoming season OR next summer via FA.

I really do hope so.  He wore out his welcome a while back in my eyes and put an exclamation mark on that last season.  Time for a change.

Marcus Smart likely staying put in Boston

Mark Murphy: League source: Marcus Smart is likely staying, now that Lonzo Ball has signed with Chicago. Any roster additions will be “on the margins.” – via Twitter Murf56
