He isn't worth that contract and I wouldn't have signed him at that price either.  Good way to hamstring your team and stay in the wheel of mediocrity

Has operating as an above the cap team hamstrung the Bucks? Nets? Lakers? Heat?

Have you seen who the Lakers added in free agency?  They won a title the season they had cap space.  Last year they had about as good a season as us, and maybe they’ll get someone in free agency who’s not in his mid-30s, but they haven’t yet.

The Lakers had injury issues.  They still added Schroder and Westbrook the last two years.  They also acquired Anthony Davis via trade.

Again, the year they won the they were a cap space team in the offseason, and they were the year before too, when they signed LeBron.  That's how they built their title team (and a 3-month break for LeBron and Davis to recharge before the playoffs might have had a lot of impact in their success).  This year they've traded for a 33 year-old who's fit is questionable and is trending down, and then have added vet min guys who are all in their mid-30s.  I'm not sure that's a ringing endorsement for being a luxury tax team.

Also, the Nets have made it to the second round of the playoffs, something we equaled or bettered 5 years in a row.  Let's let them at least get to the finals before singing their praises.

Okay, so you’re just going to leave out context.

I'm happy we didn't sign Fournier. I also don't see any particularly inspired moves by anyone. Most of the moves will probably end up as mistakes.

I wish we could have signed Ball for four-year, $85 million
I wish we could have signed Theis for four-year, $36 million

That's kind of it.

I agree on Fournier, we got Richardson so that is not so much of a loss to me but in order to have gotten Ball, we probably have to give up Thompson and Smart.  Bulls got off easy only giving up Satoransky and Garrett Temple (he was not signed anyway).  We didn't have that kind of disposable contracts.  I don't care that much about Ball.  Good move for the Bulls but not what we need right now.

This deal puts Chicago at about $20M below the tax without a full roster.  Wonder if they are willing to pay tax to keep Markkanen.  Would they take Thompson in a sign and trade?  Is Markkanen going to get more than that ($9.7M x 1.25 = $12.1M).

With the Hayward full TPE we could have signed him probably in giving just something like Pritchard and a 1st. Then trying to compete before having still some flex next summer. All that for 3 month of Fournier. Finally this TPE could have been usefull. Ans we didn't bring another with the Knicks... This is very disapointing and really give problems

I don't get the love for Ball honestly.  He's not a point guard.  Good passer, can't dribble penetrate like his brother. Weak on pick and roll.  Fournier a better value than Ball IMO.  But while disappointed we lost out on Fournier, I can live with it. I hope we really give a lot of minutes to develop Romeo and Nesmith.  They could become good role players for us, on relatively cheap contracts.

What? He's definitely a better passer in transition, but he's a passable worker of the PnR. Lonzo was a better passer at the same age IMO

Miami isn't above the cap all that much. Even this year they could have just signed Lowry into cap space.

The other 3 teams all have a top 5 player (or two) and are legit contenders. That isn't Boston.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

What Ball does really well is exactly what the team needs most. The team's offense stagnated last year. We walked the ball up the court in transition. We didn't move the ball in the half court. Kemba was a defensive liability on the other end.

Ball pushes the pace in transition as well as anyone in the league and then keeps the ball flowing in the half court. Quality defense with the size to switch. Good 3 point shooting. He's an intelligent player and has his head together.

What he doesn't do well, we don't really need that much because we have Tatum and Brown. And he's 23 and still going to improve.
