Free agent Evan Fournier has agreed to a four-year deal that could be worth as much as $78M with the New York Knicks, source tells ESPN.

Last year is a team option. 72/4 guaranteed, probably would have been enough.
Can't believe we let another good player go for nothing.

Look at where we were just 4 years ago. Looking to take the league by storm.
And look at the roster now. It's embarrassing.

An embarrassment. Ownership needs to sell if they won't spend to be competitive.

Liam has $20.00..what do you have?

I can put in $50! In small change!

Evan Fournier said his first intention was to re-sign with #Celtics: "That was my priority going into the summer. Because I knew the place. I talked to Brad and we couldn't get a deal done, obviously. I was more inclined to sign there because they traded for me."

So basically Cs were never really interested in paying him at all once Ainge stepped down.

Or only on Doug McDermott money, maybe.

But, it ends the narrative of “he never wanted to be here”.  The guy wanted to remain a Celtic, we just favored “flexibility”.  But, renew those season tickets, because big things will happen Next Year.

He isn't worth that contract and I wouldn't have signed him at that price either.  Good way to hamstring your team and stay in the wheel of mediocrity
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

Yup. The Cs offer was probably significantly less than market value and was only made to basically say “We tried to re-sign him and offered him a deal but he chose to go play elsewhere. Oh well, at least have have flexibility.”

Has operating as an above the cap team hamstrung the Bucks? Nets? Lakers? Heat?

Ah yes. The wheel of mediocrity. Guess the Cs don’t have to worry about that next year because they won’t even qualify as mediocre. Outside of JB and JT, this roster is a hot mess. It’s all young roatation guys and reclamation projects on expiring deals.

I also don’t understand the “he’s not worth that” nonsense. He’s worth what the market says he’s worth. EF is a good player. He can score and handle the ball. Great 3 pt shooter. His deal is more than fair. He’s a better player than Joe Harris/Duncan Robinson/Davis Bertans/etc and look at the deals they got. It sort of ludicrous to use that argument. They lost a very good player and got nothing. The talent drain this team has gone through over the last few years without getting any assets in return is insane.

So if this 'flexibility' doesn't turn into a third star, they really messed up. I guess we'll see, but I'm disappointed. We never got a healthy Tatum, Brown and Fournier and I really liked their potential fit. I'm also optimistic Fournier will retain decent value over the next year or two and could be flipped easily if necessary. You need financial flexibility, but you also need assets. I don't see many assets left.

This reflects my thinking also.  I am disappointed to lose him but does anyone think that the Knicks are now going to contend for a title with Randle, Fournier, Barrett, and Derrick Rose?  To me, that smells like a perennially mediocre team.  Is that what people want for the Celtics?

We have Tatum, Brown, Richardson, and Smart.  We need some size (PF), not Fournier.   We will see how it works out but the play was to take Richardson for far less money and only one year over Fournier.  We are not locked in to Richardson the way we would have been if we ponied up for Fournier.  Smart is only one year.  By not signing Fournier to multiple years, we have the flexibility but we have to do something with that flexibility.

The Celtics need to do things that help them now and don't hamstring them in the future.  They have made some pretty big moves, trading Kemba and getting Richardson.  Granted these were more financial flexibility moves over talent moves.  Good, smart moves, headed in the right direction moves, but for this off season to be a success, in my mind, they need to get a PF.

My name to watch is Gallinari in ATL.  I think they will try to move him so they have more money to sign Collins.  Thompson is obviously one piece to help but it will require aggregating some of the TPE into players that can then be added to Thompson to get enough salary to take back Gallinari.  Another option is Markannen but that would need to be sign and trade (and hard capping).  There are not a lot of PF options out there.  That is the problem.

Have you seen who the Lakers added in free agency?  They won a title the season they had cap space.  Last year they had about as good a season as us, and maybe they’ll get someone in free agency who’s not in his mid-30s, but they haven’t yet.

It's probably safe to say that Brad has a different view than Ainge did with respect to Evan. Ainge signed Evan, you'd think he would plan on re-signing him. Then again NY obviously came in with an offer that Brad didn't think was worth committing 4 years of money to match.

Actually 3 years, considering the final year is a team option. And looking at deals that guys like Norman Powell and Duncan Robinson got (5 years, $90m), Fournier's deal is good value for a 2 guard who can score. Acting like it was a cap killer feels like excuse making for a cheap front office. It's clear Brad has his marching orders: bargain bin shopping only.

SG: OG Anunoby/Norman Powell/Matisse Thybulle
SF: Gordon Hayward/Demar Derozan

C: Kristaps Porzingis/Bobby Portis/James Wiseman

The Lakers had injury issues.  They still added Schroder and Westbrook the last two years.  They also acquired Anthony Davis via trade.
