Expand trade with Washington to include:

Beal/Westbrook/Bertrans

For

Horford/Brown/Smart/Thompson

New Team:

Pritchard
Westbrook
Beal
Tatum
Williams III

Bertrans, M. Brown, Nesmith, Langford

That’s a pretty significant step backward.

Roy, nothing but respect but your post makes an argument with little proof. Expand?

Westbrook is an upgrade over Smart.

Beal is an upgrade over Brown.

The rest are contract matching pieces where we have redundancies and Bertrans assuming he can return to his shooting form gives us an outside shooting threat at the PF position, a position we sorely lack.

There’s my arguments ;)
If you only count one end of the court. Pritchard-Westbrook-Beal would be absolutely abused by opposition teams. How on earth does that team cover Brooklyn or Milwaukee? Do we have Tatum trying to cover their best perimeter player?

Also, Westbrook does not contribute to winning. It is that simple.

This is an offensive league… plain and simple.
If you ignore what just happened in the playoffs, sure. Milwaukee and Phoenix were both defensive-minded teams. The 4 best offences in the league did not make the finals. Same with the playoffs before that - the 6 best offences in the league did not make the finals.
'23 Historical Draft: Orlando Magic.

PG: Terry Porter (90-91) / Steve Francis (00-01)
SG: Joe Dumars (92-93) / Jeff Hornacek (91-92) / Jerry Stackhouse (00-01)
SF: Brandon Roy (08-09) / Walter Davis (78-79)
PF: Terry Cummings (84-85) / Paul Millsap (15-16)
C: Chris Webber (00-01) / Ralph Sampson (83-84) / Andrew Bogut (09-10)

Gouki summed a lot of my thoughts up, but to go into more detail...  I'm not a believer in Westbrook.  Early in his career, he was a hard-nosed, do-everything PG.  Somewhere along the way, he realized he'd get more attention -- and an MVP -- by chasing stats and triple doubles.  He no longer makes sacrifices to make a team win.

Last season, Washington played at the fastest pace in the NBA.  Yet, they only ranked 17th offensively.  Westbrook was quite inefficient, with only a .474 eFG%.  That's ugly, particularly for a guy taking 19.0 FGAs per game.

I don't think that Westbrook would sacrifice shots to defer to both Tatum and Beal.  Additionally, we'd be sacrificing both Horford and Smart, guys who play both ends and who are both good passers.

Sorry, that’s too simple. It’s a offensive league but you don’t win a chip without some defense. The only really good defender there is Williams.  Tatum is just OK as is Beal. Plus, you do not have championship team with Pritchard and Williams, two young guys as 2/5 of your starting lineup.

This "might" be how management is looking at Jaylen Brown....

BTW, I understand if you don't like his game, but, a trade would mean that management also doesn't like his game.

The goal is a title and management has two all stars, both young with further growth hopefully, coming to their games.

I remain in the "this is not the year" group, but hope they win a title anyway as my first game at the Garden was in 1964 and you never know.

The following season (2022/23), management will go all in, which means, they have been planning on going all in for maybe two years now.

Brown is a valuable asset who could be traded and get a significant return.

Brown is "easy to keep" as he is a strong defensive player who "can switch onto anyone and does" but also, is a strong offensive player.

If they're are going to trade Brown for a "max" player? My guess would be next year.

Will management make moves this year? Yes as they are setting up for the years after this year.

I'm sorry that Tatum isn't carrying the team, but, he is too young. This age issue is taking care of itself as each day passes.

I think Beal would be great in Boston, but, I just don't think he is "the plan." If management is going to trade Brown, it will be for front court. All of the great Celtic's teams had star power in the front court, ask the Milwaukee Bucks about having talented bigs in the playoffs.

This is so beyond incorrect it’s hard to even comprehend the logic.

Offense makes money. Defense wins championships.

I’d much rather have another banner. To think a line up of Pritchard/Westbrook/Beal can do that is just hilarious.

Adding Beal or another disgruntled superstar like Simmons or Westbrook is not the solution. The solution is on display right now in the Olympics. Less ISO ball, less selfish play, more team play, and that involves a commitment to defense and moving the ball.

Beal would just create another ISO option to take the ball away from Tatum. His 38 million dollar salary or whatever could be used on several very high quality role players like Crowder and Dragic and Jarrett Alen.

I truly hope the new coach brings a new offensive and team philosophy. It was so frustrating watching Brad just abdicate his role as coach and letting Tatum go 1v5 in almost every crunch time this year. It's simply not winning basketball, even if sometimes it worked out.

A team of superstars works when other vets take pay cuts to fill out the roster. We saw this with Brooklyn and the Lakers. But a Celtics big three won't get anywhere without players like Blake Griffin willing to play for peanuts to go for a ring, or high-end role players like Joe Harris and Jeff Green providing a secondary impact.

Build a team this year. Not a showcase for Tatum.
