Langford might also have to be included in s&t or move him if cap does not go up enough to keep him. TL also walks. That's how much needs to go to sign Beal. So team is

You would need to get some vets to sign cheap as title chasers. There is a huge vet PG as well as Center market available that offseason. PF though is light. C's might be smart to just get the best PF they can trade up this draft for or gamble at 45 take a guy like Todd. Id say Rubio/Dragic, Aminu/Parker and Ibaka/Baynes are your FA pick up options. Leave open spot for buyout player.

This would be why getting the young guys more playing time and development is important this year. Some could be heavily relied apon 2022 year as impact players.

Unlikely.  Just better to trade for him now.  Especially since to sign him you basically can't have Smart, Thompson, Fournier, Williams, Williams, Horford, and maybe Langford.

Much better to just acquire him centered on a package of Smart, Thompson, Langford, R. Williams, and future picks.  Then you get to save Horford,, Fournier, and G. Williams to actually build a real team.  You also can then give Beal more years and more money making it far less likely that he would actually leave.

Yea, it's a little counterintuitive, but Boston's better off trading for him (even if it's a S&T next summer, but the earlier the better) than they are signing him for "nothing" because of how much you have to gut the team to clear space. Beal alone you can match with Horford and any contract or Smart and Fournier's likely salary amount, and you'd be tossing them some youth or picks for their trouble.

Tatum, Beal & Brown combined would make 100 million a year..hard to build a team around that much money to 3 players

It's not a lot, given the expectations for the salary cap. For the 2022-23 season the projections are $115.7 million for the salary cap and $140 million for the luxury tax.

As many teams have taught us (most recently the Nets), all you need is to get three elite players, and you can worry about rounding out your team thereafter. Role players will come, if by no other means than mid-season buyouts.

Beal and Tatum are definitely going to be playing together in the NBA at some point. Hopefully that is in Boston. Comments below are from the other day.

Except that Langford, Nesmith and Robert Williams are the guys that matter for the long term. Horford, Fournier and G Williams do not. Keeping Fournier and obtaining Beal (or anyone other than a center or point guard that starts) effectively deletes any future on the team for Langford and/or Nesmith.

Robert Williams is either a top 10 center, or a dead weight. I have to believe there is a way to save him and find that out.

I think going for Beal is a mistake, but it is better to consolidate around youth and picks than it is to trade for him. I'd rather have Beal and Langford and Nesmith than Beal and Fournier.

Eh, Beal's 29 next summer. If you're going out and getting an almost-30 scoring guard you're doing everything you can to win a title in the following 3 years, and Nesmith/Langford will never be starters on a Jays/Beal iteration of the Cs. I definitely see the argument that Nesmith/Langford are more affordable bench help than Sixth Man Fournier would be, but not that they become foundational pieces.

The big thing a trade would do is allow you to keep one or two of the Smart/Fournier/Horford group of supporting veterans, all of whom would have a clear role on this theoretical contender.
