Apparently, Partizan Belgrade has ''made an offer for Israeli rising star Yam Madar''. They'll play in the EuroCup next season (not as glamorous as the EuroLeague), but they just signed Jeljko Obradovic as their head coach who's a living legend in european basketball. Let's say he's like Phil Jackson or Gregg Popovich, only way younger (he's 61).

Based on a quick google search, I found an article from March 13 reporting that Yam has filed a lawsuit against his current team claiming that the terms of his contract allow him to leave on a free transfer. His team claims that he's under contract for next season and demands compensation in order to release him. Go figure.

Interesting news about a Euro offer.  I’d rather have a vet as our third PG a with Smart and Pritchard than Yam, so it would be nice if he could keep developing a bit more at a higher level before coming to the states so that he’s ready for an immediate role here.

The suit between him and his team over his contract has been well-discussed in all the Yam threads, however.  I’m most curious as to when/how that will resolve, as I know diddly about the Israeli court/arbitration system.

I too would like him to spend a season there under Obradovic. There seem to be quite a few veteran free agent point guards who would fit into that bench spot

It will be a good gauge of his talents to see what would be best, so looking forward to Summer league with tempered expectations.

You mean he is only good when he has the league's best player like Pop or Jackson?

Haha, this made me chuckle. I don't agree about Pop, but with Jackson I might.

Pretty sure the 2013-14 Spurs did not have anyone close to the best player in the league. Even in 06-07 I would argue that LeBron, Kobe, Nash, Dirk and KG were better than Timmy. Heck, the 16-17 Spurs won 61 games without TD and IMO would've gone all the way if Zaza didn't goon out. Pop designed some really beautiful offences as the talent of his squad aged, and was the architect of really strong offences. Feel like the Pop pile-on is a bit like the Belichik pile-on

Not really. He won his first EuroLeague with Partizan Belgrade in 1992, in the middle of the Yugoslav Wars. The team was playing all of its home games away from Yugoslavia because of the war. Nobody expected them to make a deep run in the competition, much less win the trophy. He won his second EuroLeague with Joventut Badalona, a relatively unknown spanish team. Again, nobody expected them to win. He won his 5th EuroLeague against Virtus Bologna, one of the most talented teams in EuroLeague history. Virtus had numerous superstars at the time, including Manu Ginobili in his last season in Europe before joining the Spurs. Not to mention, the game was played in Bologna (Virtus' home city). All in all, Obradovic has won a record 9 EuroLeague titles as well as 2 Saporta Cups (sort of like the modern-day EuroCup) and numerous titles at national level in Yugoslavia, Spain, Greece and Turkey. No other head coach has ever won more than 4 EuroLeague titles. He's a living legend in european basketball for a reason.

I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.
