Definitely not worth the risk. He could end up being a good coach but the optics are bad. Udoka is more proven (based on experience) and doesn’t come with the baggage.

It’s official:

The Portland Trail Blazers reached an agreement on a five-year deal to hire LA Clippers assistant Chauncey Billups as the franchise's new coach on Sunday, sources told ESPN.

Billups, 44, will be introduced at a Tuesday news conference in Portland.

The deal includes a team option on the fifth season, sources said.

And besides, Billups was a prominent media figure for years and there was NO outrage until the moment he was up for a head coaching job. Marv Albert received a Larry o Brien trophy for his time as an announcer yet he was convicted for abuse. That's not even touching the other people.

there is a difference between getting a job and getting a job to lead a franchise.  The buck stops with Billups now as he isn't just some guy in the staff.

Being media friendly because you talk a lot and leading a franchise as head coach aren't the same thing.   The Kobe talk is ridiculous but is based mostly because of his untimely passing.
