I’m curious if there’s any pushback on the hire.  Portland tends to be pretty progressive, so if any fan base is going to care about hiring a possible/probable rapist, it’s them.

Only if the media makes a big deal out of it, and I figure they won't. He had a successful career since then as a player, he was an analyst for national media, etc. and few people bring that up as an issue.

So we'll see. I doubt it's going to be a problem in Portland, as in, Portland won't make it a problem. Others could.

There have been some articles.  We’ll see if momentum grows.

We'll have to see but I think things will calm down in a month or two but I'll echo it's not the Celtics taking the brunt of this.

I won’t be surprise if Portland let Billups go next week because of all the backlash
C/PF-Horford, Baynes, Noel, Theis, Morris,
SF/SG- Tatum, Brown, Hayward, Smart, Semi, Clark
PG- Irving, Rozier, Larkin

You nailed it! Portland is NOT taking this hiring well at all. SO glad it's not on us.

There are some who really like the hiring and some who dislike it but let's see how it goes.

Just as I said when folks were pushing for him to be our coach.  Just not worth the backlash.  Dame is having to respond.  I expect Paul Allen's sister, the Blazer's owner, is getting a lot of pushback directly.

A bit surprised there hasn't been pushback on the Mavs hiring Kidd.  Not a good look for an org trying to cleanup its own toxic culture towards women to hire Kidd with his problematic past.

I know It's interesting that there's very little backlash regarding the Kidd hire despite the fact that he committed domestic violence is joining the Mavs who not a few years ago had a slew sexual harassment accusations.

I had completely forgotten about the Billups rape case in Boston. Reading about it now it jogs the memory a little bit.  I guess the lawyers got involved and got this case swept under the rug - which is what they're paid to do.

But it does make me wonder....Rick Pitino gets hammered to this day for getting rid of Billups so soon after drafting him 3rd overall.

But if you read up on it, in the aftermath of the rape case, Walker apparently filed a complaint or suit against Billups and Ron Mercer, which was sealed so no details were ever made public.

Could this be why Pitino unloaded Billups midway through his first season?

Sounds like it was either going to be him or Toine and Toine was the star player as well as Pitinos's guy having coached him at Kentucky. So the Celtics unloaded the 3rd overall pick in Feb of his first season with the team.  Mercer was then traded that summer.  So in the aftermath of this incident - 2 high draft picks who were allegedly involved that night along with the star player were gone within a year.

There is an untold story here.

Billups might be a good coach but there's something about his path that feels a little... entitled?

Entitled might be too strong of a word but since playing he did some TV and spent just one year as an assistant in LA before immediately grabbing a head job. That one season as an assistant kind of feels like a half-assed attempt at showing he's willing to "pay his dues" without actually having to pay his dues.

Somehow that seems worse than former players who just jump right into a head job. Like those guys aren't pretending they aren't just getting the job based on their playing careers?

Maybe I'm projecting. Anyway, I'm much happier with Udoka.

What about former players that get TV gigs?

By the way, Billups had a stint as a TV analyst, and may have even turned down an offer for a GM job.

Did those trades hurt the team?

Billups was the 2nd best player in that draft.

Always wondered why Cs unloaded him.
