Feel like this trade could make Portland a beer team overall. Question is does it make the celtics better.

Yes of course but why the heck would Portland?

Portland needs to trade CJ McCollum for a supporting star to put alongside Lillard. Not role players.

Yeah, I don't think McCollum's value has fallen enough for a deal like this to go through. Seeing if they could flip CJ for someone like Middleton or Simmons makes sense to me

Put the same trade up on Portlandblog or whatever its called. My guess is you would get an overwhelmingly 1 sided result...I voted yes btw.

I don't think McCollum is the answer for us. He's not good on defense and he's not a PG. All he would do is take away shots from the Js. Would we we be better? Probably, but not so much better that it is worth taking on his contract.

We'd be better off keeping Fournier and the trade pieces.

McCollum is better than Fournier, but marginally so.  I just don't think McCollum is worth $100 million over the next three years.

for some this is a no brainer yes.

For me it's a no brainer no.

not needed, causes problems with roster, reduced defense, big no.

I think we would be better off signing Fournier and keeping our players. McCollum does not move the needle for us enough for the price in assets and contract.

This would definitely make the Celtics a worse team. Frankly, I can’t see a good reason to add an albatross contract like his, especially because he begins the season at age 30.

To be sure, he has some skills to recommend him,but this would be a step backwards.

He’s an outstanding jumpshooter, including from long midrange, which is rare, and a great asset in today’s game. Good finisher, too, but he doesn’t get to the line much - Marcus Smart’s ftr is twice what McCollum’s was this season, though they’re both grade-A FT shooters. Similar Ast%s, but is anyone going to claim that CJ does as much to organize an offense as Brother Marcus? I didn’t think so. On the defensive end there’s no contest; good hands and quickness but he’s 190 and not in hailing distance of Smart, and he’s a lot less versatile/switchable. I’d pass on a straight-up swap, let alone with the other assets that you’re proposing.

I wouldn’t trade him straight up for Nesmith either. Aaron is 21 with good length and spring and defensive instincts. BIG age and salary difference. Nesmith shot .392 from 3 in the last four months of his rookie season, shot over league average for the whole season and over .500 from 2. He’s got a repertoire of shots off the dribble, including the all-important 8-10 footers over rim-protectors. His blossoming ability to guard wings and his emerging shooting make him a perfect complement to The Two Jays going forward.

CJ is cripplingly expensive for what he does, and he’ll be on the wrong side of 30 next year. It’s safe to say that nothing like this deal is going to happen.
'I was proud of Marcus Smart. He did a great job of keeping us together. He might not get credit for this game, but the pace that he played at, and his playcalling, some of the plays that he called were great. We obviously have to rely on him, so I’m definitely looking forward to Marcus leading this team in that role.' - Jaylen Brown, January 2021
