At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

This is a great reason to keep Horford:

https://www.yahoo.com/sports/report-nets-could-pursue-al-234229869.html

That’s a very silly article.  The Celtics aren’t buying out Horford.  You don’t hold multiple press conferences for a guy who you’re buying out — you simply send out a press release welcoming him to the team.

TP sir. That’s just a bizarre take on Horford and the Cs.

Weird. I thought all players hated Boston...
Only primadonna superstars and uninformed clowns hate playing for the Celtics.

I also can't see why the Celtics would just buy him out.  That would make no sense.  But I wonder if a restructure could be possible.  He is guaranteed $27.5M + $14.5M (Total $42M).  Would he be willing to restructure to say 3 years at $16 per or something like that (Total $48M)?

I guess if he is released and paid $14.5M next season, he could sign for more in 2022-23 and then in 2023-24.  I don't know, he probably makes more just playing out this contract, certainly if he gets the last year guaranteed, but it would be nice to figure out a way to get some flexibility.

Tom Brady would restructure.

not sure the league allows players to void an existing contract that has no option to sign a different contract but even if it did, the point of getting Al's contract is the ability to waive him after this year so that the lower guaranteed portion allows the C's to take a shot at a good FA in 2 years.

You guys are all missing the point. Remember, Durant said that he's always wanted to play with Al Horford. So the Nets are trying to get Horford because clearly, Durant has talked to them about leaving the team and coming to join the Celtics.

I posted that Nets thing to show how delusional Nets fans are. Horford is either a trade chip or a player for us. If we were going to just buy him out we could've bought out Kemba and kept the pick.

There'll be a discussion to be had regarding Horford next summer, if a major trade involving him doesn't develop in the interim, but for the meantime the only real question about Horford's future is whether Washington would prefer him or Smart+Fournier as matching salary in a theoretical Beal trade.

I don't know why everyone is excited to waive Al next year.  His contract is going to be fully guaranteed because the incentives will have been met.
