Reports I read are, the twin franchises in LA are going to have a bidding war for him.  Good luck with that!

Is he better than Dennis Schroder?

https://stathead.com/basketball/pcm_finder.cgi?request=1&sum=0&player_id1=dinwisp01&p1yrfrom=2020&player_id2=schrode01&p2yrfrom=2020

He seems to be a more willing passer, but Schroder is significantly more efficient.

The more I read about the various options for getting a quality NBA point guard, the more it seems crazy not to do what it takes to draft Davion Mitchell. It would be so much cheaper, and he'll likely be better than any of them.

I think he's hit or miss.  He measured at 6'0" at the combine, with an average to slightly below average wingspan.  That could limit his defense at the next level somewhat.  He's also going to be 23 years old before the season starts, and has only had one impressive year in college.

He's mocked to be a top-10 guy, which not only seems risky, but expensive to acquire.

Every viable option is expensive. Mitchell might be a disappointment, as anyone might. I doubt it, but that is certainly possible. If he isn't, he's kind of ideal for the C's, and compared to the heavy cost of the other options, he seems like a wise choice.

Would love to add Mitchell..  If too expensive, there is his longer (and younger?) backcourt mate Jared Butler, if his supposed physical issues are deemed not a problem.  Could probably get him with pick bet. 18-25

An overpriced poor shooting, shooting guard who is injury prone, ah, no thanks.

I don't know how that bidding goes as both LA teams are over the cap (I guess the Lakers could renounce Schroder and get under the cap but not by enough to sign Dinwiddie).  So you have to over pay in salary and also send back some assets?  Along with then being hard capped?  Be my guest.

Maybe for the Clipps it would be something like Rondo and Kennard for Dinwiddie and a hard cap?  I just don't see it.  I am not sure it even makes them better and they would still need to clear more salary (assuming Dinwiddie's contract is in the $20M range) to stay under the hard cap.

Yeah ,  unfortunately I think that is what the truth might be ,  but I was wrong about Gallo on the Hawks ,  I thought he was was washed up 5 years or more , he could barely trotting down court. He was valuable for Hawks .   But he is tall….and no replacement for height , like Boogie ….even if they are all surgically repaired ,  tall guys still can function…KD can always shoot over people. . Not so sure about Spencer s game from now on.

Health was the main concern with Gallo. Dinwiddle looks good in some highlights but he's a role player at best. He'll probably be overpaid but I wouldn't want him unless he was like a 7-8th man...

23? Sheesh.

That reminds me of Udoh a few years back (10yrs?). I loved what he did in college (I thought he was the next Horace Grant) but he was older than all the guys he was playing against and he did not come close to reproducing that level of play against grown men in the NBA. It really is a big advantage - nowadays in particular with so many one-and-done & two-and-done guys in the NCAA - to be an older college player. To have that physical superiority over the guys you are competing against by being a few years older and having that extra physical strength and know-how.

Those shooting numbers are sketchy looking as well. His only good year shooting the ball and his FTs still stink. Another warning sign along with the age and the wingspan / small size.

On a positive note -

I was trying to think of a player who he reminds me of. I started with Kemba but that wasn't right. Kyle Lowry is who I ended up with. A small scrappy guard who plays with physicality and passion. Enjoys defense. More of a all rounder on offense than a great scorer or pure playmaker.

Lowry took a few years to find his feet in the league as a bench PG to a starting PG to a star level PG. I wonder if Davion Mitchell could do the same given time.
It can certainly hurt players, but then there are examples like Brogdon who debuted at age 24 and has been a really solid player. I like Mitchell, but he's no sure thing after one good year of college ball
