Remember this guy?  The Celtics drafted him in the 2nd round of 2020 as a 'eurostash' player.

Well guess what, now we have a need at point guard.  And Madar's game has blossomed abroad.

https://www.basketball-reference.com/international/players/yam-madar-1.html

He averaged 17.1 ppg, 5.2 apg, and 1.3 spg with 47% FG/ 41% 3P/ 83% FT numbers as the starting point guard in a grown man's professional league.

More good news?  Madar was an Iron Man - playing in all 30 of his club's league games, and averaging over 33 minutes per game while coming in 4th in the league in points scored and assists.

Not sure how Brad Stevens feels about Madar... but surely now could be the time to tap into an international talent at a position of need who would come on a relatively cheap rookie contract?

I was thinking of this yesterday. I think we would still either have to start Smart or get a vet PG for a year, but I wouldn't be surprised if they bring him over and get rid of Waters and Edwards.

Am still skeptical about YM.

My concern is if we hand the PG reigns to Smart..he isnt exactly an iron man due to his style of play and may miss atleast 15 to 20 games on average thos season...with that said, who plays point? Or do we see a point forward type offense centered on the Js.

There are definitely dominoes left to fall regarding that PG spot and no..i dont think Yam is the answer.

Agreed.  I'm still sad that despite the Celtics being historically so forward thinking - being one of the first franchises to feature black players, black coaches, and black player coaches, that they really have never had an international success story yet.

This franchise would look so much different if for example they had taken Tony Parker (28) over Joseph Forte (21).

Or the one that still STINGS the most Giannis (15) over Kelly Olynyk (13).

Obviously the 'Dancing Bear' was a huge bust pick at (16).

But we've invested a relatively modest 2nd round pick to stash Yam Madar (47).  Why not see what he has to offer?

He'd be a bench rotation at best, at least for next season. Smart and PP have better chance of starting at PG

Never really thought of Kemba as a point guard to begin with. Smart is a better passer and I think he will be fine in that role. Hopefully this mean less shooting for him too.

Doesn’t he still have to get released from his contract over there before he can come here?

How about Payton?  I think he should be the starter next year unless Brad brings in a starting PG through a trade.  Smart as the 6th man.

He doesn’t break guys down off the dribble much from what I see. You rarely see him drive into the key and dish. That’s what we’re missing.

In the playoffs it starts with Smart, J, and J. With that they have, for a change, no size disadvantages or defensive weak spots to hunt. And all three of those guys don’t shrink in the playoffs. The problem will be shoring up the 4 and the 5.

Payton is a nice regular season player. In the playoffs he will be hunted mercilessly.

Smart starts at PG he is better suited in that role.

However, I don't think Smart is in green to start the season.
