No because getting Lonzo would require a sign and trade which would hard cap us. We need to make more moves, we can't be handcuffed to roster we have now.
2021 Houston Rockets
PG: Kyrie Irving/Patty Mills/Jalen Brunson
SG: OG Anunoby/Norman Powell/Matisse Thybulle
SF: Gordon Hayward/Demar Derozan
PF: Giannis Antetokounmpo/Robert Covington
C: Kristaps Porzingis/Bobby Portis/James Wiseman

I would, cap considerations aside.  We need a pass first point guard.  Ball would help the Jays a lot.  I think Langford could replace much of what Smart provides.

Ball’s shooting has improved substantially.  I just don’t get why New Orleans would trade him.

I'd definitely do it, but we've all seen the reports on Zion. From what I've read, he wants the Pelicans to keep Lonzo.

I doubt the team would want to further risk their relationship with Zion just to get Smart.

Ball would fit great with Tatum & Brown
C/PF-Horford, Baynes, Noel, Theis, Morris,
SF/SG- Tatum, Brown, Hayward, Smart, Semi, Clark
PG- Irving, Rozier, Larkin

I'd do it.

I think what this team needs is a Lonzo-like PG to really get the most out of our other guys (Tatum, Brown, maybe Fournier if he stays). They obviously aren't getting CP3 nor are they getting Rondo. There aren't too many PGs who are focused on facilitating nowadays but that's the kind of guy I think the C's need.

I'll miss Smart but I hate this notion that he's "untouchable". At some point this team's got to make some changes and it's not like you can just keep everybody. Otherwise, have fun basically running it back again.

If this were not the case, absolutely - but it is. Plus NO may have a Zion problem on their hands and he's Zion's guy so I would assume he'll be signing a nice extension assuming that he's open to staying.

Yes, but how much is it going to cost us in terms of salary?  Are we sure Lonzo is that 3rd star or is he more of a complementary player to bring more out of Tatum/Brown?

I think the salary would work out because Lonzo did not play at such 'elite' levels that he would ever come close to max/super max territory.  But he'd probably cost at least 20m+ to extend for say 3 or 4 years.

Now if we can trade for Dame Lillard or Bradley Beal, I'm all in!  Lonzo is an ok move.  But as someone mentioned above, why would the Pelicans do it?

I would make no additions that threaten salary room to add a max guy in 2022 or 2023. I want Beal next year or someone in 2023.

This is how I feel. I think Lonzo could fit well with JB and JT but he’s going to want long term commitment and that will destroy any chance of Cs having any sort of meaningful chances at any FAs potentially. Like the idea but I would ride it out with Smart/Pritchard/vet min guy for this season.

I kinda think so too.   He can see over the defenses and he is mostly a pass first guard looking for the easy assist like Rondo use to.

smart is not much of an offensive threat ,  but he can pass when he puts his mind to it and needs to forget about shooting.     I trust Balls shot more than Smart.

Smart is a defensive monster ,  but his bone headed shooting and jumping like a elephant gets old .
