Hopefully there is another deal in the works for someone to fulfill the backcourt starting lineup

If Smart is our starting PG, then we are in big trouble
C/PF-Horford, Baynes, Noel, Theis, Morris,
SF/SG- Tatum, Brown, Hayward, Smart, Semi, Clark
PG- Irving, Rozier, Larkin

On the plus side it might increase his trade value.

Not a fan of the two big lineups people are posting. The Timelord/Horford combo sounds like a disaster waiting to happen. Horford can’t guard young/faster swings at this point in his career. He’s strictly a 5. The next move for the Cs needs to be a swing guy that can play the 4.

Ideal lineup for next year should be

Smart
JB
JT
Swing via Trade or MLE
Horford

Pritchard
Fournier
Nesmith
Parker
Williams

Personally I don't think our starting PG is on this roster.  I pray we don't go into the season with Smart as a starter.  I'd rather PP start over Smart.  Marcus is a great bench piece who closes games because of his D.  ALL of his flaws come out when he starts.

PG PP
SG Fournier
SF Brown
PF Tatum
C Horford

Bench rotation
PG - Smart
SF - Romeo
C - Rob
SG - Nesmith
PF - Jabari Parker

Hopefully Romeo and Nesmith make big leaps because they need to for this team to develop back into a contender.

As some have said, all 5 of our starting or core line up may not be on our roster right now.  The only two for sure who will start are Brown and Tatum.  Horford is probably pretty likely as well.  So say that is 3.  The questions are who to start at PG/Guard and who to play alongside Horford.

As to PG, I have no problem starting Marcus Smart.  I feel he is a good passer, good team and one-on-one defender, and a serviceable enough scorer/shooter.  I also don't mind if they find more of a true PG to bring in.  That is the best part of Marcus, he has great versatility.

As for the 5th starter, I went back and looked at what line ups worked best with Horford back in 2018/19.  At that time, he played the most with Marcus Morris and had good results (1158 min, +74).  He also had good results with Baynes (163 min, +73) and Oleleye (110 min, +46).  You can also look at how he did as the one big with some combination of Irving, Smart, Brown, Hayward, and Tatum (220 min, +36).  I think what this shows is that Al is very versatile also.

My prediction is:

Smart
Brown
Tatum
PF/Swing (to be acquired)
Horford

...as it seems to me Horford is most comfortable playing along side of a Marcus Morris type swing or skill PF.  I think there is a slim chance this could be Jabari Parker, if we are not able to acquire someone.  In Atl in 2019/20, he started 23 games with 28.6 min and put up 16.2 pts and 6.8 rebs.  That would be solid production for the swing/PF role.  I did not see that from him in his time with the Celtics this season, that is for sure, but maybe that is an attainable ceiling.

We could also sign and start Fournier in a 1 big line up with Horford as the principle single big.  In 2018/19, they did not play that way all that much but when they did, the results were fine (see above).  I prefer to find a decent PF/swing, and have that be our core line up, we can always change up and go small if we want, but it would be nice to have the option to put a PF/Swing out there with Horford.

In Philly in 2019/20, they mostly played Horford as the second big with Embiid (this was the single most frequent lineup) but they also did play a number of lineups where Horford was the single true big.  In these cases, taking the other big off the court meant you were taking your best player (Embiid) off the court (not like switching Morris for Baynes) but also Horford usually had 6'-10" Simmons on the court as the second "big".  The Horford-Simmons pair (without Embiid) was used a fair amount and did pretty well.  Overall probably a little better than Horford-Embiid but not really appreciably so.   There were very few minutes where Horford played without either Embiid or Simmons, and in those few cases, the results varied so much and there were so few minutes that you really can't do much with that data.

Hopefully we flip TT for either a backup 4 or a point guard.

Draft Herbert Jones in the 2nd round. Prefer him to Semi

I agree with this and feel like it’s the optimum starting
Lineup. Originally, thought maybe Horford and Timelord could play together, but like some have mentioned Al won’t be able to match up with the quick modern 4’s. Plus, if you have Smart and Timelord on the floor together you are limited offensively, especially from deep. I Like the second unit too, but the C’s really need to overhaul the 11-15 spots. I don’t want to see any of those guys back.

Assuming Fournier re-signs(which hopefully he will) how many games does a Smart, Fournier, Brown, Tatum, Horford team win and where do you see them being ranked in the East?

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

Smart - Fournier - Brown - Tatum - Horford

That lineup can hang with most teams.  Healthy, they'd be in the mix with any of the teams that made the conference finals this year, I'm sure of that.

Bench is still an issue.  Pritchard, Nesmith, Timelord, Thompson .... need more guys who are experienced and can be relied upon to hit shots.

Another first round exit with that team..Smart is not a true PG and that bench is awful

Smart with 4 shooters on the floor works but you can't have two non-shooters on the floor especially to start.

It is a bad bench, which is why we should flip TT

Defense would be atrocious with Parker and Fournier starting together.

Their defensive is better than reported. Would give us a switchable lineup with good size. 6’7” and up. 3 plus shooters. 4 guys who can stretch floor.
