I'm ok with this trade.  The #16 pick is hit or miss territory.  More than 50% of the time you get a complete bust/end of roster type of guy.

We had to give something to get out from Kemba's deal.

Al Horford is a nice fit on this roster, he's familiar with Tatum and Brown, he's a solid defensive presence, and he can play the pick and pop game to space the floor and allow Tatum and Brown to go to work.

To me, this move makes one of Tristan Thompson or Rob Williams expendable.

Most likely we trade Thompson unless we can extract GREAT value from a team who loves Rob Williams.

BTW Moses Brown looks really promising, athletic and long, 7'2, can rebound and block shots.  My question - could he play the 4?  I'd love to see if we could run a 'Twin Towers' configuration of Moses Brown + Rob Williams at the 4-5.

Moses Brown needs to work on his outside shot though, historically has shot ZERO 3 pointers at the NBA level but he's young at 21, he could still learn.

No he can’t play the 4. I’m skeptical he can play the 5 for this team. Really raw.

I don't get the raw, and unproven.   The guy almost averaged double of what Grant gives up in points and rebounds last year with legit size.   He is not that skilled, but he ran the floor, hustles and is a decent big who can rim protect 1 BPG and doesn't need the ball to do this stuff which is good around Tatum and Brown.  He most likely can't play the four.  But he can play the 5.

A lot of what and how depends on if we can move Tristan Thompson.

Can an Athletic Subscriber summarize this Jared Weiss story about the disfunction of the Celtics.  Apparently Blake Griffin asked one of the Celtic players what it was like playing there and the player said to stay away.  Pretty dramatic stuff.

If Kemba was saying stuff like this, then good riddance.   No way to know it was him as I can't read the whole article.

Several team sources felt Stevens was more aggressive with certain players this season, which included Walker who was criticized for his defensive mistakes. Those sources said Walker and Stevens began to butt heads, though the pair were considered to have a productive working relationship and mutual respect for one another. – via Jared Weiss @ The Athletic

Probably true, all he did was an occasional take a charge and a steal.   Too small, I would love to get some tall guards who can defend better.

There's no indication it was Kemba.  I'd be more concerned that it is an accurate representation of the team culture.

It is not hard to put up numbers on a bad team that is tanking.  There is nothing to say Grant wouldn't have put up similar numbers playing for OKC.

Listened to an OKC podcast. They said Brown ran wild for a couple weeks, then once teams had a book on him they shut him down. Strictly an energy player. Can’t shoot outside 6 feet, can’t shoot free throws, not very strong so can be boxed out. Can’t be used to set screens outside and act as a hub distributor.

Most likely, barring injury to a Cs starter he’s going to the G league.

He is not a perfect big

But is long, mobile and works hard

I like the Jarrett Allen comparison

Moses Brown is also young and could keep adding strength. His lower base looks sturdy. Does not have thin legs

Too bad we couldn't get Ty Jerome in that trade.

Yeah it was clear as day that Brad had lost the locker room, but many here did not want to admit what was patently obvious.

Every once in a while, a player will break the mold and develop late. But based on his body of work to date, he’s a third string center with serious limitations. As a project, *maybe* he can get better in a few years. People need to have realistic expectations here. I just heard someone say on a podcast maybe we can trade Rob because Moses is his replacement. Whoa. No. No. Not even close.  Reading a lot of speculation about his upside. Pump the brakes. this reminds me of the Luke Kornet excitement after the kid hit a few 3s. Come on people.

Initial reaction: bad trade. Moses Brown is just tall, that’s it really. Not excited about his potential at all. TT has to be on the outer now - hopefully for a TJ McConnell type.

Giving up a first is bad management and pretty strong evidence that our GM is a rookie. Overpaying for a guy he loved coaching doesn’t sit well with me, and our PG hole is gaping wide. Needs addressing, because Smart has been pretty bad as the lone PG.

Horford’s defence has been really poor since he left us. If he can return to somewhat near what he was when at Boston then that is much more palatable. Big if. Depends on our coach

Who did you think the C’s could realistically get for Kemba? He had negative trade value. The only way to unload him was to attach a 1st round pick.
Horford’s defense may not be elite anymore, but it’s not poor. That’s just not true.

In regards to Moses Brown, he had multiple 20/20 games and finished off the season with a 24pt, 17reb, 7blk performance. Luke Kornet is the same height, why didn’t he put up those numbers?

Moses Per 36: 14.5pts, 15reb, 1.8blk, 1.2stl
vs
Timelord per 36: 15.2pts, 13.1reb, 3.3blk, 1.6stl

Moses Brown might be the best prospect on the Celtics. I don’t know how anyone can say that he doesn’t have upside being a 7’2”, 245lb, 21 year old.
Gotta laugh at you leaving assists and shooting percentages off your statistical comparison. Moses Brown has the passing awareness of a traffic cone, that’s why he’s an average prospect at the moment.

I just think we could have flipped Kemba for salary that expires sooner. Doing this is a pretty obvious example of Brad wanting to get one of his binkies back. Rookie GM. Hope it turns out well, but knowing our luck pick 16 will be Giannis 2.0 and Kemba will be an All-Star again

You girls are really sold on Moses Brown being Moses Malone.

You traded low and that’s never a good thing.

Please don't insult girls.  They'd know Moses Brown's upside is limited.

List me another third string center that pulled down as many 14+ rebounds last season

Moses did it 8 times
