it works in the ESPN trade machine

not sure how accurate this is

i thought of this idea after reading how porzingis may be unhappy but can be hard to move bc has a big deal and is injured a lot

that reminded me of kemba! haha

maybe we switch problems?

we could use a big who can shoot, they can use kemba bc ... umm.. maybe they'll just like kemba bc he seems like a happier person ?? :)

awesome !!

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
We are already a pretty soft team. Would trading out one of our most engaged players - one who demands the defense's attention - for a weak, injury-prone big man (with an extra max-year) be an improvement?

I guess it's possible Porzingis is exactly what we need - he's an intriguing talent for sure, but people concerned about Kemba's health moving forward should be greatly alarmed with Zinger's.

Why would Dallas do this? They have one of the best PGs in the league

Kristaps Porzingis frustrated?

But Porzingis has been frustrated, often feeling more like an afterthought than a co-star as Doncic dominates the ball and the spotlight, sources told ESPN. Porzingis frequently made thinly veiled references during his postgame media availabilities, such as saying the “ball actually moved tonight” after high-scoring performances or stating that the offense didn’t involve him on low-scoring nights. “It’s just the plays we were running,” Porzingis said after an April 7 loss to the last-place Houston Rockets when asked why he didn’t get any shots in the fourth quarter despite scoring 23 points on 10-of-19 shooting in the game. After a pause, he added: “Happened before also.” – via Tim MacMahon @ ESPN

Nope -- Dallas has no interest in putting a PG next to Doncic. They don't want anyone that is taking the ball out of his hands.

Porzingis is right. Dallas is doing a terrible job utilizing him & doing a terrible job of developing him into a more well rounded player. Just developing his passing into an average passing big man would make the world of difference to his offense. Getting him to roll to the rim a few extra times a game instead of popping for long jump shots would make a huge difference to his FG% and scoring efficiency. So many simple things to help make him better. Dallas doing a terrible job.

Conceptually, on paper, yes. This would be a great trade for us.

But in reality, Kemba (even in his oft injured state) will probably be more reliable than Zinger. Plus, we need leadership which Zinger doesn’t bring either. So... I’m not sold on the trade

Thats too predictable then... as good as Luka is. Clippers D sat on it

Imo its not a good game plan to channel the ball through one guy mainly

Does Smart, TT and TL for Porzingis and a 1st make more sense? TL gets hurt just as much as Porzingis but TT is added insurance. TL and Smart fit well next to Luka but they would need to find a new stretch big. C's add a stretch big that can get hot.

Brunson, Smart, Luka, TL, (stretch 4).

Roster for C's
Walker/Pritchard/Yam
Fournier/Langford/Edwards
Brown/Nesmith/
Tatum/Parker/
Porzingis/Grant

It's really taking a chance on the starters of
Walker, Fournier, Brown, Tatum, Porzingis.

I really don't want Porzingis on my team.

Which is why they need a secondary ball-handler. Not a primary ball-handler. Not a PG. A wing who can handle and pass a bit.

Kemba needs the ball too much. He dribbles the ball too much. He is not a good fit next to a ball-dominant wing like Doncic or LeBron.

That type of PG not only adds the help they want for Luka but also needs more touches / time on the ball which detracts too much from Luka (too many possessions in less efficient / effective hands). They take more than they give. The team loses more than it gains.

Plus, they do not want a small guard messing up their defense. Luka is a bad enough defender. They don't want to pair him with a defensive liability at PG. They want put a switchable defensive PG there to help protect Luka. It is bad for Dallas on both ends of the floor.

The only way I'm doing this trade is if I'm getting additional draft picks or other assets back along with Porzingis.

Right now the Celtics are able to get way under the cap after the 2022-23 season once Kemba's contract runs out. That means that one year from now the team will have a big expiring contract to package with assets to attempt to land a third star to pair with Brown and Tatum. The Celtics would need to be compensated for adding that extra year in salary, especially since it would muddy up their long-term cap flexibility and ability to get under the tax threshold.

I really don't want Porzingis on my team.

I love Porzingis but I am pretty worried about his return from his latest injury & continued injury proneness. Not a guy I feel great about depending on. I am rooting for him in a huge way because I do love his talent but perhaps better afar than up close.

1. He seems like a sourpuss, to put it in family-friendly terms

2. He's in the Derrick Rose category for me, which is to say, off-court issues that make me not want to root for him.

3. Trading Kemba for Porzingis would mean swapping one player whose availability is a constant question mark due to injuries for another player on a LONGER contract whose availability will be a constant question mark

4. He's a 7'2'' dude who shoots well below 50% from the floor, does not have a reliable post game, and seems to want to be a ball handling small forward.

no thanks on all counts

ill just add --

If the NBA is cool with having guys like Derrick Rose and Kristaps in the league despite, uh, "off court issues," I think the least it should do is ensure that all of those players are on the same team so I can root against that team wholeheartedly.
