I'd rather wait on 2022 and 2023 FA for a bigger star. Things I don't like are CJ is due 30, 33 then 35 million over the next three years, that is big money for a third best player on a team. Smart and Fournier give you more flexibility as players than McCollum so it may not be that great of a move for a team that people say lacks depth.

Only two things can sell me on CJ. One is if C's feel strong about their current team developing. That means Jays have to get even better and the bench has to really develop. The other is you expect to flip CJ for Beal or another upcoming star at trade deadline.

I’m on the fence bout CJ.. I would love to have him here but his contract is huge which would hurt..
C/PF-Horford, Baynes, Noel, Theis, Morris,
SF/SG- Tatum, Brown, Hayward, Smart, Semi, Clark
PG- Irving, Rozier, Larkin

I am surprised by the anti-CJ vibe here.

I'd love to have him here as a PG. I do not understand how many consider him a SG. He only plays SG because he has Damian Lillard next to him. On any other team, he is a PG. Not a pass first PG but a PG. A scoring PG.

I'd love to have him next to Jaylen and Tatum. CJ would be an excellent fit offensively. His excellent jump-shooting and ability to create one-on-one off the dribble and off the PnRs would round out our offense beautifully.

There would be some problem with ball movement if Al Horford had not been brought back but he is back. We have a C who can facilitate the offense and take pressure off the PG. Then we have 2-3 secondary ball-handlers on the wing (Tatum, Jaylen, Fournier, Smart) to help out their PG too. There is more than enough help to cover a score-first PG. The team do not need a pass first PG.

I believe a CJ, Tatum and Jaylen trio is good enough to lead us to a Championship. Get some role players around them and off you go.

CJ McCollum has near Donovan Mitchell upside for whatever team does manage to nab him from the Blazers. CJ's shot-creation is one of the best in the league outside the best of the best. He can score from anywhere on the court and do it by creating for himself. And he can play off the ball at a high level too.

McCollum is an underutilized offensive weapon because he has had to share the limelight with Lillard.

I can't wait to see where he lands.

I like CJ but not sure he is a fit here. I guess if you could get him for Smart/TT + scraps, I’d probably make that deal. But not sure I’d fit here. He’s certainly a fantastic offensive player though.

He’d be a great fit on Philly. Philly needs a guy like him so the Simmons/CJ rumors make sense.

Smart + Fournier (sign and trade) may be a possibility depending on how much Fournier (and Powell) will command on the open market. The Blazers would become hard capped at the apron. It only makes sense on their part if they have enough room to re-sign Powell.

We could then dump Thompson for cap relief + one second rounder (for instance, let's say to the Hornets).

McCollum
Brown
Otto Porter Jr. (via the MLE)
Tatum
Horford

That would be a legit contending team in my book.

Good post.  If you can re-sign for Fournier for around $14M, I would not make that trade.  That said, I think Fournier can command around $18M.

Even at $18 million, I’d prefer Fournier.

It’s Fournier + $15 million + Smart + Timelord/Nesmith + 1st, or McCollum

@Who and others that really feel CJ is a PG with huge upside would this deal make for sense for Blazers and C's

CJ
for
Smart, TL, and TT.

C's then resign Fournier. Blazers don't get hard capped.

CJ/ PP/ Yam
Fournier/sign a vet SG
Brown/ Nesmith/ 45
Tatum/ Parker/ UDFA
Hordford/ Moses/ Grant

PS edit: not saying I'd do it but does it makes more sense for Blazers and C's if CJ is a PG.

The backcourt is a disaster defensively.

SG: OG Anunoby/Norman Powell/Matisse Thybulle
SF: Gordon Hayward/Demar Derozan
PF: Giannis Antetokounmpo/Robert Covington
C: Kristaps Porzingis/Bobby Portis/James Wiseman

I agree. It's why CJ and Fournier can be resign and traded for. Both guys are flawed. Team would need to sign a vet guard that can defend both spots.

Not really. Want more of a smaller role player that won't try to take over a game. A Josh Hart, K. Nunn, Elfrid Payton, or Gary Payton ii would do. There are glue guys out there that are okay with smaller roles. Just need defense and one skill.

The Celtics need to move on from the score first point guard experiment. IT was great when he was here, and Kyrie was fine because the J’s weren’t ready. Walker mostly got in the way on offense and defense. A net negative.

Maybe I would think differently if it was Trae or Ja, but that only works if one of the J’s are gone.
