Why hasn’t the NBA fined Kyrie?
The NBA is too woke for that. Plus Silver is afraid to stir anything up with the players association. The players have too much control right now and they could care less about the people who actually pay their salaries.

I think John Karalis summarized it best: it’s a silly basketball controversy. I file this under the same “controversy” folder as staring down a hone run or running up the score.

That being said, clearly Kyrie has an axe to grind vs the Cs organization as evidenced by him going out of his way to make that gesture. There is definitely way more there to that story than what has been divulged so far. Wonder who gets the scoop on that story at some point.

Good point about more to this issue than has been divulged.

I don't think there is.  Boston management didn't mistreat him, any more than Cleveland did.  He failed in Boston, and rather than fight, he quit.  He can't take accountability for that, so he blames the Celts, and has to make a big show of it for the world.

I think this is exactly what is going on.  No huge mystery, just a big ego in Kyrie who failed big time in Boston, and instead of sticking it out and turning things around, he conspires with KD to go to the Nets.  He knows he failed, everything else is just him distracting from that.

I care.

But there's a difference between doing a jump-ball at center court, running up and down the court through the logo, and deliberately walking to the logo to smudge/stomp on it before walking back.

Why hasn’t the NBA fined Kyrie?
For what? Stepping on a logo after the game?

Players get fined for giving the middle finger to the crowd. Surely this seems worse.
No...it's not. It's not even close. One is professing profanity. The other is simply a childish attempt to try to elicit a response that will hurt his opponent.

Across the league fans would understand a player getting fined for hand signing to the crowd to go eff themselves.

The only people who would even contemplate agreeing to fine Kyrie for what he did are hardcore Celtic fans.

Plenty of non-Celtics fans see it as extremely hostile, disrespectful and antagonistic.

Serpentine, Martian-face Silver, who is completely obsessed with proving to the world how anti-racist he is, would never criticize Irving for what he did. He sure as hell would never defend the Celtics organization.

Charging this kid who threw an empty plastic bottle at Irving with a felony is ridiculous.

"Assault & Battery with a Dangerous Weapon" ????????

An empty plastic bottle is a dangerous weapon - are you kidding me ?

This country has lost its mind.

The plastic container sure looked empty...it didn’t touch him so there no battery, he did not have any apprehension of battery so even the assault charge is weak ...that charge is not getting very far.

This is more of “taunting” than it is anything. He stomped on the logo and yes, it was upsetting to us as C’s fans, but he didn’t directly go at any player or official.

Players don’t get fined for taunting the crowd. They don’t get fined for jumping on the scorers table or throwing up “shh” signs or Reggie Miller’s choke gesture. Kyrie could’ve dropped F bombs at Ainge and Wyc and I don’t think he would face any punishment.

Glen Big Baby Davis cares. He gets it. Of course Durant the ring chasing mercenary doesn’t understand team pride and loyalty. He even dropped the N word on Big Baby albeit with an ‘a’ at the end.

Idk why Kyrie isn’t crying about KD’s racism lol

Plenty? More like very little.

And, since when do players get fined for being antagonistic, hostile or disrespectful? Players act that way to refs all the time and don't even get thrown out of games, nevermind fined. They get a technical.

I mean, is what Kyrie did really any worse than players throwing the ball, screaming at the ref and getting ridiculously demonstrative as they plead their case they didn't make a foul? I would say it doesn't even rise to that level. A lot of this stuff doesn't even get a technical.

Sorry, but this simply is not a fineable offense. It's not in any way like flipping the bird off to a crowd.

I think the league should care about this.  It is not a good look for the league to have any of this kind of thing.  And if it escalates, the look gets even worse.  At a minimum, if I was the "league" I would warn the Nets and I would warn Kyrie.  Stop it and stop it now or I would pursue some penalties (token at first) against the Nets and against Kyrie.  Probably best to pressure the team and have them deal with Kyrie but this is just stupid stuff that the league does not need.

As a fan though, I am not that upset by this.  It is Kyrie who looks small or petty.  I honestly am not worrying all that much about Kyrie.  He came, he played, he got injured, he left, he says and does dumb things, rinse, repeat.  And I am also not all that worried about whether or not some Celtics players shake his hand or hug him after games.  That is just ceremony or whatever.  Way to much is made of this.

As to the bottle thrower, I feel being banned from the Garden is a fair penalty.  Kyrie is free to press charges if he wants but I don't think this kind of thing needs to end up in a court.  Our courts really do have bigger things to be doing.  A strong message was sent to the fans.  This type of thing will not be tolerated.  You will never come to a Celtics game again.  We can move on.
