Retirement from a position is often bittersweet/ mixed emotions.  It very well may have been Danny’s decision to leave and at the same time he may have been experiencing a host of various feelings at the press conference.  I’m not sure why speculation on the behind the scene thoughts and each individual’s reasoning is so important.  Isn’t it possible that everyone felt this was best for the organization and individually but that the change brings up conflicting feelings — maybe even some sadness or maybe even some harsh reality about life and aging?

He’s had two heart attacks. It’s a stressful job with a lot of travel.
