One problem for C's fans to debate: Tatum's personality.

I personally don't think he is incapable of being a core player on a championship team, but...

He also clearly isn't a leader who sets the tone for the team, or able to even provide a quiet example. He's still putting up numbers, but moping around like everyone else. He can't have Kevin Love outplay him when the playoffs are at stake.

I do think Brown has more competitiveness, but I'm not sure he's quite ready to push his teammates, at least yet, when the lead guy is so uninvolved in the team's emotional edge to make up for it. And he's not going to be there for the end of this dismal run.

As good as Tatum is, I'm not sure he has the intense competitiveness you want, especially since we aren't going to have an MVP candidate any time soon.

Tatum may get there someday.

I do think that for now they need to bring in veterans with more fire.  Kyle Lowry, for example, would make a world of difference even if his production isn't what it used to be.

A guy like Jae Crowder is the type of player I think they miss in the supporting cast, as well.

Ainge basically just said Smart isn’t going anywhere in the offseason on TnR. Just shoot me.

Yup. Ainge said, when asked about a potential Smart trade, that “a trade involving one of our best players is unlikely.” The fact that Smart is still considered one of the best 4 players on this team is HYsterical.

I heard the same and audibly sighed. I'm hopeful it's just GM posturing in order to maintain whatever semblance of value is left for Kemba and Smart. But also Ainge usually is up-front about these types of things.

Assuming those four stay...it seems like Thompson and one of Langford/Nesmith are pretty much the only guys on the roster who could get much of anything in return. Maybe a ton of future 1sts? But I wouldn't like seeing that happen.

Correct, No GM in their right mind would make such a statement on public media.  Automatic loss of leverage!

I read that one of the owners is blaming the poor season on a shortened pre-season, Covid, injuries.  If this management's thinking then expect the rotation players back with one or two exceptions.

Exactly. Ainge is not going to go on radio and declare who he's trading. I don't know why people listen to these interviews and expect anything other than the typical GM speak. He's never going to give actual insight his plans or strategy.

And besides, it'd be pretty irresponsible and reckless to publicly declare the team is looking to move on form Smart (or any player) just as the play-in/playoffs are about to start.

SG: OG Anunoby/Norman Powell/Matisse Thybulle

Trade Smart for Ricky Rubio.

Trade Kemba for Al Horford.

Trade TT, GW, Semi, Carson. Don't expect back anything of value.

Rubio
Brown
Fournier
Tatum
R Williams

Horford
Pritchard
Nesmith
Romeo
2021 1st round pick (maybe power forward from Texas)

Ainge also said there will be changes

Cant go into details

I think you could read that as a total avoidance of the question.  If that quote is accurate he made no mention of Smart.  So you could easily interpret that as Ainge dodging the question.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

T&R grilled Danny hard again

Along the lines..

Danny "its not Brad  fault".  "It's the team(everybody) fault"

Rich " if its the teams fault, the blame ultimately should be on Brad, no?"

Danny "listen...."

my personal viewpoint:

Absolute keepers unless bowled over by an offer that's a ridiculous overpayment by the other team:
Tatum, Brown

Players that could be building blocks worth keeping around for at least another season but would move if the offer was really good:
Pritchard, Nesmith, Timelord

Players that can be good to put around the J's if they provide consistent production but would be valuable pieces to use in deals for better fits:
Kemba, Fournier, Smart, TT

Players that need to show some real improvement if kept around another season or will need to be moved:
GWill, Romeo, Parker

Players that need to be replaced by players that can contribute:
Semi, Edwards, Kornet, Tacko, Waters

Personally, I don't see Kemba and Smart as a viable starting backcourt.  if both are here next season, Smart needs to go back to 6th man and we get a SG that's an actual offensive threat that can also help initiate the offense.  That SG may come from Fournier or an improved Nesmith or Romeo -- I don't care as long as it's not Smart.  We also need a durable center that's not useless with the ball under the basket like TT.   A real PF would be a help as well.

Danny's got his work cut out for him this offseason as far as I'm concerned

Keepers for me is

Brown (untouchable)
Nesmith
Pritchard
Langford (needs offseason)
TL

Coaching
Brad Stevens - extended last season. Can't see going anywhere anytime soon. Unless traded

Trades (unpopular)
- Smart and Gwilliams to Rockets for Eric Gordon and 2021 least favorable 1st
- Walker to Spurs for TPE and 2nd round pick
- Tatum traded to Bulls for Young, White, Patrick Williams, 2021 1st round pick
- TT to Wolves for Hernangomez
-Carsen Edwards waived

2021-2022 Lineup

TL/Lopez/Bassey
Patrick Williams/Young/Hernangomez
Brown/Gordon/Pons
Nesmith/Langford
White/PP/Yam

2021 draft picks -  Bassey, Pons
FA signing. Robin Lopez. 2 years at full MLE per

Interesting trade thought with CHI, but we're asking them to give up their 2019, 2020, and 2021 1st round picks for Tatum.  I'm not sure they would, but kudos for being one of the few here willing to move on from him and not JB.

I think Chicago would pull the trigger in a heartbeat.  I think it's a genuine underpay for Tatum.  none of those players are likely to be as good as Tatum.

The Walker deal is a non-starter.  if we trade him while we still have him under contract for 2 years and only get a TPE for it, Danny needs to be fired.
