To look at the long picture and stop only pescimism, and even if this season isn't officially over (I guess at the very best we beat Charlotte and win 2 games in the BKN series, it would already be a quiet postitiv ending), I think we can begin to project on next year.

So name by name, actor by actor, who need to stay to build the future, who should go ? Personnally I would try medium adjustments.

PLAYERS

IN 7 core players and 4 Gleaguers = 11 players
Tatum, Brown, Timelord (wait next year for the extension), Smart (if OK to sign extension at 12-14M a year, if not sign Fournier), Nesmith, PP, Parker
for 11 spot and + and for Gleague : GW, Langford, Edwards, Taco

OUT TRY TO TRADE 2 trades (low or negative value) + 1 ST
Kemba + Thompson. Try to find a pure def big or old style and a PF like Collins ST/Barnes/Markanen in a multiple trade. Give multiple picks including this one if necessary (like if for Grant or even Collins)
Sign and trade Fournier for TPE and bring Ball by exemple for pick(s) ST (or trade Smart+ pick and keep Fournier)

OUT FA4 to 6 players
Ojeleye, Waters, Kornet, Fournier
Stash Madar one more year in an elite euroleague team if possible

STAFF
In both Ainge and Stevens... But last chance this summer for Danny and next year for CBS.
Don't know about the coaching staff. Maybe some news stuff in medical/kiné/ sophrology ... approach or staff... I don't know.

Ball-Brown-Tatum-Collins-Timelord-Smart-Nesmith-PP-Vet old school big (Valanciunas/Poeltl/Drummond...?)- Parker + Gleaguers/ vet min (Theis?)... A good fantasy young team with all titulary from 23 to 26 and Smart/Valanciunas by exemple as big brothers...

I've seen enough of Grant Williams to last a lifetime.

I believe in giving this group another chance. Give them a real summer and a real training camp to get healthy and get on the same page and see what they can do.

If they flame out again, I think Stevens will probably have to go and the team should tear down everything around the J's and build something tailored to them.

But I do think this team has plenty of talent, as-is, to contend for a title if they're healthy and playing together.

Only keepers I would have are:
Jayson Tatum & Nesmith

Everyone else be on the block
C/PF-Horford, Baynes, Noel, Theis, Morris,
SF/SG- Tatum, Brown, Hayward, Smart, Semi, Clark
PG- Irving, Rozier, Larkin

The keep everything perspective is not mine... And I don't think it is still sustunable from Ainge part. Of course it depends on what we can do on trade, but I guess we can give now all our draft picks, we have 2, maybe 3 or 4 (if Madar) good young guys under rookie contracts.

Hopefully this failure force Ainge to make some roster change (if no good option for Kemba or Thompson or Smart/Fournier ST, then at leats find a good PF/C sub. Can't go anymore with GWill on the field or Williams as the only 1 option). I don't think the keep cool naration stay solid. Last trade deadline we maybe missed a chance when Heat took Crowder and we didn't do anything. Maybe we will loose Fournier and TPE for nothing. Our young bench guys can't take so much on them. GWill can't take anything. So hope to see better mooves than Thompson/Teague (for whom I was quiet happy...but wrong). Danny has to proove his trade /roster construction talents again.

The only 2 players that should be in are Tatum and Brown, and even then if the right trade came along I'd move either one.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

Tatum, Brown, Timelord, PP, Nesmith

That's what I see as the core going forward. In fact, I think that's what the starting lineup should be, even if we bring everyone back.

Keepers:

Tatum
Brown

Contract Outweighs On Court Value:

Kemba
Thompson

Obvious Casualty of the Luxury Tax and a Need for Change:

Smart

Worth Re-Signing Unless Charlotte Makes an Insane Offer (You Know They Will):

Fournier

Promising, Young Players to Keep or Use in a Trade:

Timelord
Nesmith
Pritchard

Would Look Great in a Different Uniform:

Grant Williams
Semi Ojeleye
Tre Waters
Carsen Edwards
Tacko Fall

No Real Trade Value But Also Too Expensive For A Player Who Has Not Shown Anything Yet:

Romeo

Cheap and Fine to Keep Around As Third Stringers:

Parker
Kornet

Would Be Worth Bringing Back / From Overseas on a Cheap Deal for the End of the Bench:

Javonte Green
Yam Madar

You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.

One problem for C's fans to debate: Tatum's personality.

I personally don't think he is incapable of being a core player on a championship team, but...

He also clearly isn't a leader who sets the tone for the team, or able to even provide a quiet example. He's still putting up numbers, but moping around like everyone else. He can't have Kevin Love outplay him when the playoffs are at stake.

I do think Brown has more competitiveness, but I'm not sure he's quite ready to push his teammates, at least yet, when the lead guy is so uninvolved in the team's emotional edge to make up for it. And he's not going to be there for the end of this dismal run.

As good as Tatum is, I'm not sure he has the intense competitiveness you want, especially since we aren't going to have an MVP candidate any time soon.

Ainge basically just said Smart isn’t going anywhere in the offseason on TnR. Just shoot me.

It's right before the playoffs.  Unless Ainge is trying to undermine his entire team/coaching staff, of course he's going to say that.  I'm more on Team Smart than most posters here it seems, but regardless, what GM is going to say "Yeah, we're looking to trade Player X this summer" right before the postseason?

IN
Tatum
Brown
Fournier
R. Williams
Pritchard
Nesmith
Langford?

Not a terrible place to build from. You still have two all stars, a soon to be starting caliber center, a veteran sharp shooter, and 2 competent rookies who show good work ethic and overall competence. Langford - who knows. He’s still a bit of an enigma, but feel like it’s too early to give up on him.
OUT
Smart
Walker
Thompson
Parker
G. Williams
Edwards
Ojeleye
Kornet
Waters

First three guys here failed to inject this team with any form of veteran leadership, see if there’s any contenders who are willing to take them on. Smart and Thompson may not be hard sells even though I doubt you can get much for either at this point. It’ll be hard to find a team who wants to take on the last two years of Kembas deal. The last five guys probably aren’t Going to be around the NBA long, good riddance (Sorry to see Tacko go). And Jabari Parker, who the hell cares.
