They’ve been getting minutes recently and I just love what they’ve done with them. Lots of hustle plays, steady shooting, good aggressiveness... sure there are lapses in D but that’s pretty much par the course for this year’s team

Kemba-Smart-Brown-Tatum-Timelord
Pritchard-Fournier-Nesmith-TT

That’s gotta be our consistent top 9, IMO. Then allot the 10th slot to one of Grant, Semi, Romeo, Kornet or Parker, depending on the need/matchup or injuries.

I would switch Fournier for Smart.  EF will have it together by the playoffs.  I hope.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I'm not sure what Brad's plan is with these two, but I have liked his approach the last couple of weeks. I'd rather see lots of minutes in some games than a few minutes in all games. It allows them to get into a rhythm, while also seeing how they play with our best players.

Pro-Nesmith fans already knew about his amazing hustle and nose for the ball...and assumed he would eventually being able to shoot. It is fantastic seeing him put it all together these last couple of games. Of course there will be bumps along the way, but he is showing what type of player he is going to be in the NBA. Oh, and the shot-fake drive to the rim is an awesome new facet I don't think anybody knew he had.

Romeo still has to work it out on offense, but I really enjoy watching him play defense. He is that good.

Edit: just noticed you said Pritchard and not Romeo (hence my focus on Romeo). Pritchard mostly has consistency, but the minutes might not be up to people’s liking.

Lol I’m not giving up on him.  Not only was he out for a very time, but he also had Covid.  I’m hoping for a solid offseason for him with summer league hopefully to get his feet under him again, and get his career moving forward.

Nesmith has come out of nowhere the last couple of games and is really making a statement.  He is a very athletic player, that has been clear from the start, but now we are starting to see the shooting touch and confidence.  I had not given up on him as some had but I am still surprised by the sudden surge in his performance.  I was not expecting that to happen this season.  Good for him.  Romeo was ahead of him on the depth chart but no more.  Based on the recent play, Nesmith has earned the minutes over Langford.

As to Pritchard, I am surprised that he only got 13 minutes in an overtime game where our starting PG was out.  His season average is more like 20 minutes.  He has established himself as a solid, reliable back up PG and that feels about right to me in terms of what he deserves.

I’m not sure Nesmith is more athletic than the average NBA player (a play earlier in the season when he got dunked on by Jeff Green comes to mind),  but one thing is for sure is he has a very high motor, dare I say almost elite.  It’s awesome to see how active he is.  If he keeps up that high motor with his reputation as a shooter that is a very good mix to have.

Ive said it before.  Nesmith just needed his confidence back.  It's there in spades now.  When he shoots he expects it to go in.  Not tentative in any way.  The hustle and energy has been there since the 1st minute he's played.  The things that have surprised me on his game is his rebounding and his handles are better allowing him to drive to the hoop.  Can wait to see what an NBA off-season will do for him as well.  Man I'm pumped about our rookies.  Can't wait to see yam next year as well.

I’m also impressed with Neismith’s  help defense and his ability to block shots. He’s like a mini Timelord out there. PP on the other hand is a fearless no nonsense point guard who can score and orchestrate the offense. His career game vs OKC showed his heart. This year’s draft class is proving to be quite a homerun for Danny. And we still have Yam tucked away overseas.

I think he ll be showing a significant improvement next season ,  finish healing and practice his shooting .  I think clever short range offense and defense will be his calling card .  MAybe he can shoot threes one day too.

I luv how Nesmith has dumped his shyness and just letting it all hang out .    He is kinda imitating Smarts aggressive play adding more athleticism.  I really like guys who have that built in instinct to follow a shot and be in the right spot for a board or put back .  Pritchard also has this gene.

Another thing I like about Nesmith is his outwardly emotive personality. I feel like this team desperately needs that from one of our top three players. Assuming Nesmith joins Tatum and Brown in the starting lineup at some point in the next year or two I think his fiery disposition will be very helpful in getting Tatum and Brown (both of whom are rather monotone with their emotions) more jacked up.

Smart is obviously the other candidate for this role on the team but he’s too inconsistent on offense and not quite talented enough.

You need that from one of your top players in my opinion.

Brad gave his backup PGs 20 minutes - a decent amount in a game we were trying to win, not focusing on player development. Pritchard also had a tough matchup when Murray was in the game - Murray is a plus defender with length. Pritchard still has trouble with that type of player.  He wasn’t effective. Brad gave Waters 7 minutes to try him - that’s probably my biggest surprise.

Smart, btw, had 12 assists and three turnovers. Scored 10 points on 6 shots. Played very good defense once the team woke up 2d half. Exactly what you want from him. I don’t think Pritchard would’ve given enough on either end to play him more if we’re trying to win the game.

Draft class will be talked about for years to come. 3 big time talents. Great players to have around Tatum.

Nessie? Out of nowhere? Kid has always hustled when given a chance, but the experts want perfection out of the gate.

He still has a lot to show with his shot blocking ability, and wait until he gets the trey going.
