Tatum got screwed out of holding the record outright.  That was clearly continuation.

But, it’s pretty cool to see him tied with Larry.
Just another crap call in a very, very long line of crap calls by that incompetent trio of refs tonight.

Still, that was one of the most amazing comebacks I have ever seen in my 45+ years of watching this team. Maybe Game 4 of the 2008 Finals was more meaningful, but this was special
Game 4 was something but the one I thought was more impressive was the playoff comeback against the Nets.  it just was unheard of at the time.
I can't give you a TP for this excellent recollection(30 minute rule), but you'll get one in the A.M. Another great comeback.

My friends and I were at that Nets game.  We came very close to leaving by the end of the 3rd quarter, but the Celts hit 2 baskets in a row and we decided to stick it out. Good thing we did. Lol

How many here now believe Tatum could be a league MVP one day?

I have since those 2018 playoffs

I believe but only this year, when I saw his willingness to move the ball. I thought before: elite scorer, knock down shooter, two way player... but PG13, Butler and other stars haven’t won MVP. So maybe All NBA at best? Surefire perennial all star though. It’s now I think MVP will be in the cards.

I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a scorer like him on the Celtics. I know the game has changed a lot, but he may even be a more gifted scorer than Pierce. 60 at his age is pretty crazy, OT or not.

I think the "at his age" is the key caveat.  At 23, he is ahead of any Celtic that I remember including Bird and Pierce but Tatum still needs to get better if he wants to match or exceed these legends.

Now don't get me wrong, I fully expect Tatum to continue to improve but it is not guaranteed.  The fact that he is even in the discussion with Pierce and Bird is pretty telling in of itself.  The sky is the limit.

I was at that game too.  I still tell people that’s the loudest crowd I’ve experienced at the New Garden. Even louder than anything I experienced there in the ‘08 championship run.  What a game that was.

I kinda hate the "tied" with Larry Bird in the record books when one did it in regulation and the other did it in OT, just hate that aspect...

Larry is in a class by himself, particularly because there’s no doubt in my mind that he could have scored more.

I think that there’s an argument that Tatum has passed Pierce already as a scorer.

Always believed he'd be MVP-caliber, eventual Tier A typa player in the NBA. But I really believed he could be as good as Durant when he went on those 30-40 point runs last February. A dynamic player.

I love that Tatum scored so many of his points right at the rim. A lot of finishing through contact. He didn’t just get hot, he showed how much he’s grown and how complete his talent package is.

Can Jaylen match it?  ;)

Tatum is getting stronger.....Brown needs to become a consistent mid range scorer and then he can have a burst to the rim....Nessie can show him why that is a good tool.

The team has gone as Tatum has gone from basically the minute he stepped foot on the floor.  He has always been the main driver of Boston's success.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

I would say as a pure shooter, yes but Pierce could score in more ways than Tatum can at this point.  It is a fair debate and I have no doubt that Tatum will continue to add to his game and if he does that, he will pass Pierce.
