Mike Gorman doesnt think Tatum and Brown can be the leaders for the Celtics

Gorman has been very vocal about the Celtics’ struggles this season during his weekly interviews with 98.5 The Sports Hub’s Toucher and Rich. He opened up more this morning. When asked if Brown and Tatum can be the team’s leaders moving forward, he said “I don’t think so,” adding that they “need someone right now who’s 28-30 [years old] who’s been around the league.” He hoped Kemba Walker would be that guy, but the veteran guard has been plagued by injuries.

Does he mean just this year or forever? This year, I agree. But they are 23 and 24. They could easily develop the leadership trait in a year or three.

Not exactly a hot take. True alphas who are capable of leading and commanding the respect of the 14 other guys in the locker room and creating a winning culture are incredibly rare. There are only a handful in the league - guys like LeBron, Butler, Lowry, Draymond, CP3. Neither JB or JT have that kind of personality, and that's okay, but I think the celtics will eventually need to find themselves a guy like that (that guy doesnt even have to be the best player on the team) if they want to win at a high level. I thought Marcus Smart would blossom in to that guy...god was i wrong.

Some of the guys you named don't have it like LeBron.  A true alpha does not quit on his team like LeBron has multiple times.

I think Gorman is an icon who has reached the place in his life where he can be completely honest with his thoughts.   I mean who has not thought this, this year.

But I too think they could grow into this, I mean Brown showed some real leadership on some of the Social Issues.    Could he show up on the basketball court?  I know insurance companies don't lower the rates on males until they are 25.  There is a reason for this number, as some scientists think a brain is not fully developed until the age of 24-25.

The brain goes through many changes starting in the early adolescent years, leading to full maturation by the mid-20s. There is a wide range of variability between individuals regarding when the brain is fully developed. For some that could be as early as age 18 or as late as age 30. But the average is around 25 years of age.

It’s also responsible for decision-making, complex planning and organized thinking, along with personality and impulse control. Therefore, these brain functions aren’t fully developed until the mid-20s.
 
The reward centers of the brain are the most active during adolescence. But by the mid-20s, they are back to normal levels of activity. This means that individuals become less sensitive to peer pressure and much better at risk management.

They are nice guys , smart , and quiet by nature with nice faces . All the players are like able . These young fellows need a real leader though.....like another NBA coach maybe..a take charge type , not a wall flower .  cBS makes Spo look like a tyrant....lol.

For Pete sake this is the NBA not the Boy Scouts .   ...The team that will win the title this year will be made of players Stevens can’t coach or you d think DA doesn’t think he can ?   He was not scared to throw KG and Allen on to Doc plate with a lot other vets.....not sure if CBS can handle it ? Or DA doesn’t trust him .

This team needs a bit tuffer coach and one not afraid to shake the tree ,

there so much disjointed agendas .....If I was Wyc ....I d clean house.

It would not bother me one second to hand the Ainges their walking papers .

I’m pretty sure he means right now. As in they’re not yet ready, whether due to lack of maturity or not having gone through real adversity. If I had to guess he’s probably seeing some inconsistency in attitude and effort, which are mental things.

I said awhile back that Tatum and Brown need their own Kevin Garnett to show them how to compete, how to be mentally tough and how to put the team's needs first. Paul Pierce would never have won a title without Garnett. He became a much more mature and mentally tough player in 2008.

Yup.

Worth hunting out guys with not just fire, but who know the difference between talk and action. 

The talk part is a trap many players fall into (Garnett did both...talk and act), but most guys start talking tough and talking about team needs and saying all the right things and all the tough things, but don't actually do them.  Danny needs some doers, whether they talk or not.

Garnett turned Pierce into a doer.

In this NBA, with the amount of player movement, you can't plan for too far down the road.

I agree with Gorman 100%. For my money, we need to get someone in here that makes Tatum our second best player.
