Jambr380 was asking why Theis got traded - and a lot of the reason was because of the POTENTIAL of all those bonuses at that moment in time.

Yes Evan won't get his now, and JB probs will not get all of of his, but Danny and Mike had to plan/allow for those bonuses at that time.  Wyc would not be happy going over tax threshold ( and starting the repeater tax clock a year early) by a million or less when it could have been avoided.

It's really the repeater they're trying to avoid. Because 4 years or whatever it is from now who knows what our payroll will be if we are contending and we have been over the tax for a few years already. It would be a shame to go over the cap on a non-contending year and start that early.

I could be mistaken, but after the trade deadline, I think it was dangercart who said the Cs were about $900K under the tax after the trade w/ [non-championship] bonuses factored in for Fournier and Jaylen (I think the Cs would be more than happy paying the tax if they won the Title this year).

With Theis making about $500K more than Wagner/Kornet combined, that would have left us $400K below the tax. That is exactly the [pro-rated] amount Parker is making; hence, my proposition of waiting a week or two before signing Parker, if necessary.

If Jaylen's $1.3M All-Star incentive isn't already factored in, then we would be screwed anyway since (with Parker's signing), we are only currently approximately $500K below the tax according to those figures.

Again, I am going on figures that were released by people much more knowledgeable than myself after the deadline. But this is my basic understanding and of course they could be wrong.

I am concerned that Rob is never going to be more than a Javale McGee type super sub in limited minutes because he can't seem to hold up for more than that.

Maybe, but he's already a better rebounder, defender and passer than JaVale has ever been, all the while is a good 10-15% more efficient scoring the ball. So he's basically a super duper sub?

If Timelord can be healthy enough to give you just 26-28 minutes a game, his impact is such, you have to keep him long term. In those minutes he could easily be a 12/4/12 guy on 72% TS% with next level defense.

Just hope that hip holds on long term. But, availability is the best ability and Danny might have to move Williams like he moved IT if it doesn't look like he will ever get past his health issues

Yes, he's a very productive reserve. If he could be available for 70+ games a season, that would still be really valuable even though he wouldn't be a core piece.

I've been a broken record about this, but I just don't understand why we traded Theis when we didn't have to. We were under the tax after the Teague/Javonte trade(s); there was just no reason to trade Theis, especially since we didn't get any picks or playable players in return.

I've been downvoted to oblivion on another site for bringing this up, so perhaps I am the only one that feels this way. The rebuttals: we wanted to open up more playing time for TL (we can see how well that is going) and we weren't going to re-sign Theis in the offseason (Kornet/Wagner are also expiring...and much worse players). I also realize we were able to sign Parker by cutting Wagner; but we would have had an open roster spot if we just kept Theis. The tax would have been extremely close, but who cares if we needed to wait a week or two before signing him?

I am hoping for the best for Rob and can't wait for his return. He clearly is the highest ceiling big on the team w/ or w/o Theis. But, it is a little frustrating counting on Grant for big minutes at the center position because Kornet is essentially unplayable against most teams. Get better soon, Rob - we need you!
One thing that probably bears mentioning, is that it looks as if Jaylen Brown has to be paid a $1.3 million incentive bonus for making the All-Star team. That bonus isn't included in all of the salary cap figures you see on the internet. That might explain dealing Theis for cap space.
yes, over on SoSH there was a discussion on exactly this point. a number of celtic players have some sort of bonus that would potentially push the celtics over the salary line. thus, part of the recent dealings were don with that in mind.
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

Was reported that he could be available tomorrow night vs Hornets.  Fingers crossed.
