Larry didn’t like it.  He’s coming out of retirement to put up 54.

Larry would be grumpy, two major Celtics records tumbled today

- Tatum became the youngest Celtic to score 50

- Smart jumped Bird in all-time 3 pointers made
5' 10" former point guard

Career highlight: 1973-74 championship, Boston Celtics

Career lowlight: traded for a washing machine

Larry would say he should've gone for 60!

Perhaps he’ll challenge Tatum to a game of horse for a McDonald’s burger to remind him who’s king (no dunking)

C's were up 11 with 2:35 to go....should have never been in OT to begin with.
Larry Bird was Greater than you think.

Tatum tonight reminded me of the Tatum who went on a tear last season. Focused, determined and confident.

Should be back in running for NBA Team

“Attacking” Tatum was a sight to behold. And it’s no coincidence that he got double digit freethrows because of that. Let’s hope this is the start of a breakout of sorts for JT.

Considering the team they've been this season, it was pretty likely it would go to OT or would be a loss. The fact that they pulled out a win was actually the surprise. There's a big disconnect between what we think they are and what they actually are, which is a big reason for the disappointment around the team. But they've won 2 games now that they should have lost. If nothing else that builds character and resilience which is what they need.

Smart's record is a dubious honor at best. If he wasn't such a dumb player, he wouldn't be near any 3-point records because he wouldn't be jacking up so many bad shots, but instead would play within his limits.
The Four Celtic Generals:
Russell - Cowens - Bird - Garnett

The Four Celtic Lieutenants:
Cousy - Havlicek - McHale - Pierce

Pretty amazing to see. He carried us for stretches and we needed every one of those 53 points. The guy’s going to be one of the best in the league in a few years. He’s top 15 right now

This really has nothing to do with Smart. Larry Bird is tied with Chris Duhon for 246th in NBA history. There are tons of marginal players ahead of him, because he averaged less than 2 attempts per game for his career, and shot 38%. James Harden has Bird's entire career in that department every 2 seasons.

That’s the point where Scal announced it was wrapped up. Who does that? I blame him.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
Tatum was dialed in throughout the whole game - it was a sight to behold. Kind of a bummer for him that his career signature game came in a mid-late season match-up against the worst team in the league, but we certainly needed his production. It would be great if Tatum could continue playing this brand of basketball moving forward,
