Overrated by some fans and Stevens.

And this is no disrespect to Theis.   He is a solid role player off the bench. But was in over his head.

Unless Theis was traded or injured. When was Brad going to play him correctly(15 mins avg off the bench) and lean on Timelord for heavy lifting?

I sincerely believe if TL got more trust and bigger role(4th quarter) against Heat in the playoffs. Celtics would have made the finals

We all saw last night his impact vs Bucks.  Bucks couldnt drive to the basket to utilize their inside outside game.  Eventually thought twice before driving in and were guarded heavily around the perimeter

Vs the previous game, drove in at will without being scared of a undersized big man like Theis.

Ainge shouldnt have to trade a player to force Stevens hands

I love Theis. Smart player, hard worker, standup guy. I don't think I agree that Williams was ready for much bigger minutes last year but this season, by the all star break, Williams had made it clear he was the best center on the team but Stevens wasn't giving him comparable minutes to Theis.

It may have been loyalty, wanting to reward hard work, or wanting to force some of the mistakes out of Williams' game by keeping him on a short leash... There were lots of possible reasons Brad leaned more on Theis but I also think a possibility is that we sometimes look at the numbers (in this case, the advanced numbers) and talk ourselves into players being something that the eye test doesn't bear out.

Like I said, I love Theis but I think his limitations (of size of talent) put his ceiling at something below starting center for a champion.

I think Theis is a good player but he didn't meet the current team need.  He never seemed to function effectively with a second big, going back to when Horford was here.  He isn't physically strong enough to cover big centers, and I think the interior defense suffered when he was out there as the only big.  Theis is meant to be a backup big, not the primary one.

I like the assessment of Theis. Competitor, made the most of his talent. A legit NBA player but clearly not as good as Rob once he started figuring the game out.

I hear plenty of complaining about the way Rob was handled. He missed a lot of time his first two years with injuries, and he used to make a ton of mistakes. Bringing him along a little slower so he peaks for the playoffs is fine with me.

Pooping on guys on the way out the door is just so epically dumb.

I don't think any of the other posters in this thread are "pooping" on Theis.  Pointing out limitations is not "pooping", and even if someone believed Theis was not a good player, why is pointing that out "epically dumb"?

This type of mentality is the reason why Theis, Smart have long leashes

How is it fair for the other guys/team, when some of these guys are having off nights/shouldnt be getting additional mins. But are still rewarded?

For me, this is less about Theis but the way Brad manages his rotation

Theis was great for us. I don't see the reason in crapping on him the second he's gone. Just seems petty and tone-deaf.

No he wasnt he was great for us.

Ideally Theis is the perfect 18-24 minutes of the bench guy we needed. He’s going to have a solid career.

TP. Agreed.

And its inaccurate to boot. Theis is not a superstar by any means but he was a starter for a top 5 defensive team that went to the ECF last season.

Theis was great for the Cs. Legit milked every ounce of talent he had. He was also a hard worker and a very good representative of the organization. You really can’t ask for more than that as a fan.

This is how I feel.  He really busted his butt in his time here and developed into a solid basketball player.  Hopefully he makes out well financially in free agency.

Good solid Basketball player. If he was 6'11" he would be a borderline all-star... It's still a hard league to be an undersized center who never got a fair whistle in a single game as a Celtic. He made Tatum and Kemba look good on many occasions. I wish we could've keep him but the team did a reshuffle and it was time for TIMELORD!!!!

Good Luck and Thanks Theis!!!!
Once a Celtic always a Celtic!(Except for Mark Blount!)

I think with Timelord the fear was always that he might re-injure his hip if he was subjected to excessive wear and tear. Brad has alluded to this a number of times, saying he wants to be in a position to be able to play Timelord a lot of minutes come playoff time. I don't think it was necessarily a reflection of Brad showing favoritism to Theis. Though to be fair Theis is probably one of the best types of players to coach, he's fundamentally sound, he works hard, does all the dirty work, and doesn't complain. As a coach you want to reward players like that to show the other players the type of work ethic you are looking for in your team. Theis also has a better BBIQ than Timelord at this point. A lot of times we as fans fall in love with talent but for the first couple of years of his career Timelord didn't have the greatest BBIQ. It's only now, halfway through his 3rd season, that he looks a lot more comfortable out there in terms of where he needs to be, and isn't overhelping.

But I don't think Stevens has been "holding him back" or that his hand was forced by Danny trading Theis. If they make a move for Drummond I think it's more to cover any injury risk with Timelord than Danny or Brad "disrespecting" Timelord or anything like that.

Any odd typos are because I suck at typing on an iPhone :D
