Let’s hope he doesn’t show out too much in the next couple of months.  We can only pay him $3.8 million in free agency.

Wonder if we try and unite him with his brother this upcoming draft.

If Mo can get some superstars ejected in the playoffs he's already a win

I suggested that in a different thread.  Franz is my favorite player who has a chance of being available when the Celtics pick (barring a disastrous final 8 weeks of the season).
I'd be totally okay with it. He reminds me a heap of Mike Dunleavy Jr., which is someone I'd be super okay with adding to the bench

He reminds me a bit more of Tayshaun Prince than Dunleavy.  I think he’ll pick up some All-NBA Defense recognition.  Anyway, would love both Wagners in Boston next year.

Luckily that $3.8 million comes with a no-trade clause, which could be something of value to a young player trying to make it who’s been salary dumped twice.  If he’s has a good 2-4 months in Boston, the no-trade aspect might give him some assurance that he’ll actually have a role instead of being trade bait.

Kind of interesting that there are only 6 German players in the NBA and two just got traded for each other.

Or Celts can maneuver/make it work?

I disagree.  I want Wagner to come alive

Provide energy, scrappyness, hit open 3s and get under the skin of the opposing team.  Just like he did to the Celts a month ago

I liked Mo in his last NCAA tourney. But I really liked Theis in a Celtics uniform a lot more.

Theis was decent. He had good moments.  But he was playing out of position most of the time.   And his complaining at the refs got crazy

He did deserve some of those calls, but he spent too much time worrying about how he was victimized instead of moving onto the next play

Half our team does that.

Tayshaun Prince with better shooting would be sweet

Well no, the Celtics can’t maneuver / make it work.  There’s a rule:  we can’t offer him more than $3.8 million.  Every other team in the NBA can offer him more than that, but we can’t.

Thanks. Interesting rule

Not a fan ... of how the Celts are handicapped

Can the Celts sign him up to 3.8m for one season(2021-2022). Then any amount for 2022-2023 plus?

I liked Theis a lot last season...but this season he's been terrible. His on-paper averages might look solid, but his production has just been all over the place.

If I'm honest, I think Danny looks at Timelord as our eventual starting center from next season onwards, and Thompson has been pretty solid this year, so he probably felt Theis was moving towards being redundant.

Absolutely
another fact is that Theis is too light to play center (last season we lost several matches, including with Miami in the playoffs, because the opponents played 1vs1 their center against him, he can't guard Embiid or Adebayo) and has almost zero perimetral game to play 4. Not an NBA player at high level, despite he knows the game very well.

Another to get rid of asap is Kemba Walker: not a playmaker, too small, defensively a crap, tends to miss crucial plays in the clutch and guys 34 M$/year. That's crazy!!! A very big mistake from Danny Ainge.

So he can't guard one of the best centres in the game and another very unique one? We should bin all of our wings and call them 'not an NBA defender at a high level' due to the fact that they can't really defend LeBron and Durant then ::)
